    $32,000

    JlP was highly recommended by clients of mine who had substantial work done in their house. I contracted with JLP for a new shower, painting, a kitchen counter, new internal doors and other repairs. They sent 2 men end of September. had to stay in a hotel while bathroom was unusable. They took over a month and the project got worse and worse as time went by. They painted the whole apartment the wrong color after being provided with paint brand and color. They put in a kitchen counter and backsplash that was the wrong choice and so badly cut it had gaps. The tile for shower walls and floor was very high end stone and it was incorrectly installed. The grout ranged from 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch instead of the 1/16 spacers that were required. Grout was on top of tile, tiles were poorly cut and chipped.The tile and grout was not sealed and immediately started staining. They did not have the experience to do it. The glass for shower was removed and the dirty caulk was not cleaned off when glass was put back. The internal doors were so badly cut with gaps, no sanding and so tight on one side it was damaging the frame. The dirty rusty original hinges were reinstalled (instead of the new white ones I ordered and the frames and doors were gauged out and crooked. There was so much more I cannot continue to list it all. I kept contacting the company asking for some supervision and corrections. In the end the owner agreed the men he sent did a poor job and he would fix it. Clearly they thought $25,000 was a throw away job and sent the least qualified people. In addition, I spent about 7K for tile, materials, hotels etc. An Italian coffee table that had a new top installed a few months before for $1000 was gauged on one side. It had been covered with rugs but they were careless carrying in doors and equipment and tools etc. and somehow scraped it.
    The owner said he would send a crew in to fix everything and it would take a week. He said he would not pay for all the new tile (over 4K) since he was providing the labor! I asked for a detailed list of what was going to be done and I insisted he pay for new materials. I also wanted to talk to the man who did the counter.
    I was unable to get any of those things. The contract was broken and I was stuck with a mess in November and had to start all over. I have photos of everything to document the entire fiasco. I told my clients that recommended the company and they were incredulous and embarrassed.
