  We used Thumbtack and hire Joe for a deck. Like many below he came with this great personality and he was sharing design ideas. He really caught us in the moment. We hired him mid-pandemic so we understood the pricing was going to be higher than normal. Our fault for not checking reviews and just going with his pitch. On top of using his daughter, sending pictures of her in a hospital, the same gimmick about the truck breaking down, the same thing about we're coming from another job and not showing up. He offered me enough "dirt/soil" to level my yard, which at that point i needed. BIG EFFIN MISTAKE. The he sent destroyed my pavers, and the quality of dirt was SHIT at best. What was supposed to be as job done in 3 weeks took 2 months, because I said I much rather waste the rest of our money to take you to court. Even speaking to his hired help they were tired of him. Performing bad craftsmanship and explaining that Joe has not paid them and they didnt even want to be here. STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM HIM.

  Build a nursery downstairs in church

  ZERO STARS!!

  Joe is a genuine fraud. Run do not walk away from him. He defrauded our church out of $14,000. We are located in Jersey City, NJ. He was supposed to build a nursery for children. The excuses - broken vehicles, family emergencies, daughter issues, you name it.

  Behind the cool affable smile is a sociopath. He lies constantly. He did the demolition (took down two walls) it took him three weeks to remove the debris. He had an electrician run wires that were never connected. He abandoned the job. We had our attorney try to reach him to no avail.

  As far as I am concerned if you will steal from the church you will do anything.

  Please, do not be drawn in by his folksy ways and reassuring demeanor. He is a wolf and a crook.

  He only got one star because I had to click a star to rate him. He deserves ZERO stars.

  A fraud!! Took $15k from us and we are begging everyday to finish our work. Its 2 months now. He lies lies and liessss every single day! Mot even one project is done and my whole family is living in a house with Open electrical boards, open nails, broken floors. We beg him everyday and he doesn’t even bother to pick up
  Our calls or reply to our text. We are losing our patience everyday !

  This guy is a complete fraud. He came to my place and gave me a quote, was overly friendly. I trusted him and made an advance payment of $6630 for a porch and bathroom renovation. The check got cleared, I verified with the bank. Half of it was Zelle payment which was instantaneous.

  Things then got really suspicious. I got a call from a number (1-888-373-1969) claiming to be Chase but has nothing to do with Chase. with him in the conference asking my bank details and to confirm about the check.

  So I immediately called him and said I want to cancel the contract. He said he has spent the money on buying materials but he cannot provide me an invoice as its questioning his 'integrity'. Note that this was within a few hours of contract. There is no way he could have purchased everything overnight.

  Although later he messaged me that he will return the money, he keeps giving excuses. He says my Zelle payment has not gone through yet and my check hasnt cleared yet. All of which are lies. He has now stopped returning my messages or calls.   Joe was such a nice person to meet. He told us he takes jobs off all sizes because his clients usually become lifetime clients and call him back when they have additional projects to complete. After working with him I'm not sure why anyone would call him back for additional projects due to difficulties with communication. Originally we hired him to complete 2 projects in our home, but eventually removed one project because nothing ever went according to the schedule he communicated to us via text or phone call. We began losing confidence is his team's ability to complete tasks. When asking when Joe's team would come out to either start work or finish what they started we were always told tomorrow and no one would show up. Weather issues were understandable for the outdoor project, but car breakdowns, forgetting supplies, middle of the day call outs and whatever else caused significant delays for our project. What was quoted as a 3-5 day job took 4 weeks. We signed the contract 30 days prior to the project starting and he didn't start the project until 30 days after even though he kept telling us he would get to us sooner. I wish the outcome was different because Joe was nice to meet initially and they did a pretty good job on our project.

  I bought the nice guy shtick and regret it. The "quick 3-day job" soon became weeks of will they/won't they show up peppered with hollow excuses and empty apologies. Every chance given to get things on track was ignored, and it was obvious the job was abandoned after money had been paid. I agree with the previous reviewer. Stay away and find a contractor that values your time and their word.

  Joe was a nightmare. He lies, lies again, and then lies some more to cover up all the other lies. A week's job turned into 8 weeks, at which point he completely abandoned the project without a word. Joe seems like a nice guy, but his philosophy that he told me was that since his guys do good work (he almost never comes to site), his lack of communication and overall carelessness with your time should net him about a C grade. He is the most clueless and dishonest person I have ever encountered in business. Stay away if you value your time because he will wait until the last second and cancel day after day after day. When confronted with his poor communication skills, he tries to change the subject or invents another one of his thousand ready made excuses for failure. In the 8 weeks, he had three truck breakdowns, a car accident, two family emergencies, and countless delays from "needing to go get more materials" and not coming back for the day. No one like this should ever be in business. Beware.
