John Foti and his contracting business was responsible for building the condo units in my complex. When we bought our unit, cracks began to show up all over the house and on the moldings, which was attributed to house settling. Within a year, the first floor flooded with sewage due to a collapsed sewer pipe extending from our unit. This was also attributed to a house settling issue which was false. The HOA ended up paying for all the repair, which should’ve been the responsibility of the contractor. The neighboring unit experienced flooding in the lower level mechanical room due to poor drainage that same year. John Foti took no responsibility. The HOA filled the cracks in the foundation and called it a day. This year our unit flooded with cracks in the foundation. When we contacted John Foti, he passed the responsibility over to some other company he hired to do the drainage work and then proceeded to tell me that the company that hired him to construct the units was already dissolved. We never threatened to sue, but it was obvious he was preparing for it. He took no responsibility for the sewer pipe collapse nor the inadequate drainage he installed for the complex. He also is affiliated with Maurice Plumbing, which has performed subpar work to repair the damage and on top of that get paid for it. I even contacted them to come to some agreement to share costs of the damage and he denied having any responsibility saying “… there is a one year warranty…”. It appears to John Foti that building a home that is water proof for one year is acceptable. Someone who would be proud of their work and would stand by their craft would not conduct business this way. I would steer clear of this contractor.
