If you are thinking of hiring John Houston Custom Homes, run as fast as you can! Not to throw any shade, but "SHADE" is a BIG FACTOR in the customer service you will receive. Do not Build with this company! Everything is a lie! One big marketing scheme! Energy efficiency should be a part of any home you build (You would think) Now, The model home is perfect, But that's a facade... You walk that model home and everything is perfect, The cabinet quality, The paint, The quality of Installation of the materials... All a lie! Your home will be built by Jose, and his 3 teenage sons and no supervision or quality control.
We spent more than a half a million dollars to purchase our home just to find out they build to the "Texas minimal code standard". Everything that they touch was a shortcut to save money, from the energy "deficient windows" to the watered down flat paint, Cheap Cabinets and more! Triple marked up materials at the design center. There is no quality control, If the home owner does not know about construction, you're at disadvantage!
I had buyers regret from day one!! In order to make my home livable, I had to spend another $100,000.00 "REMOLDING A BRAND NEW HOUSE!
The first lie is in the name, a "custom" home builder. Well, they recently changed their name and drop the custom. They claims to be a Faith based organization, second lie. From the first meeting with our salesman, we had a difficult experience with him and his staff! They use the Texas Minimum Construction Standards (TMCS) to maximize profit, yet over charging the buyer for everything. Any and all so called upgrades have a triple market up. Quality is the worst! When hiring a contractor per BuildZoom they generally recommend with a score higher than 95. John Houston Custom Homes has a BuildZoom score of 90, which places them below 24% of 222,249 contractors in Texas. Please don't use this builder, there are many other builders who actually care about they customers, but not this one. They use the lowest budget and non-skilled contractors installing low quality goods from México. The materials are seconds but you will pay top dollar for them. Warranty claims are a joke! Deflect and deny to run out the clock on your 12 month warranty.
So they build a $300,000.00 home, charge us $500,000.00, Then add another $100,000.00 on remodel... $300000 upside down!!!! Again Please do your research, run as fast as you can !!!!
We purchased our home mid March and moved in at the beginning of April. I had buyers regret after week one! There was a hole in the top shelf of the pantry, chipped tile in the shower along with half installed grout, splitting in my custom cabinets, doors not closing smoothly, wires underneath island were wired wrong so it sparked and kicked out the garbage disposal and there’s already separation in my wood floors! It’s not even the end of June and we’re seeing what appears to be nailhead showing through the wall in our bedroom. On top of it all they’re still building on our street and there’s trash and oil stains directly in front of my house on a daily. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND OR PURCHASE FROM JOHN HOUSTON AGAIN!! To bad I can’t submit my photos here. Buyers beware!

Build our home
We closed on a John Houston home 3 weeks ago. As a builder / remodeler myself, I would NOT recommend a John Houston home. We have buyers regret after only 3 weeks. We would not purchase a home built by this builder again. And we have yet to meet a person who lives in a JH home who has been happy with the final product. We should have researched more before we purchased.
