Quality - The worker removed structural flooring - without even mentioning that he planned to, much less asking first - then pressed on an HVAC duct/vent and it began falling THROUGH the ceiling of the level below. It ruined 2' of plaster ceiling that will have to be repaired at our cost. They didn't even offer to sweep or vacuum up the mess that rained down on the table, chair, floor, computer, and personal items below. He just said, "Hey - don't drink your tea there, it has stuff in it now." Cheers, mate.

Communication - As they were wrapping up, I tried to open a door to ventilate the area from the spray foam... and noticed it can not be opened at all now. Again without discussing, he'd insulated right up to this functional door so it won't budge. Solution? They told me that I or my husband could climb in ourselves and cut back/remove the insulation or we could pay our other contractors to do it tomorrow. Waitaminute - I just paid to have that section insulated, and you're telling me we have to permanently undo and/or redo your work? Why didn't you just ask me to remove the door so you could insulate properly? Answer: we're already over the clock at this point and we have to go.

Time - Oh, that's right. They showed up 2.5 hours later than promised. They kept complaining about having to work after hours (which their company had scheduled this way). We did appreciate them fitting us in, but hey, maybe if your supervisor complains about it the entire time, it kinda cancels the favor out, y'know? Meanwhile, my kids didn't yet have dinner and I had to wait for them to finish so I could feed them, but alrighty...

Giving them 2 stars because he gave me a can of spray foam "it's worth $20 and you can have it free" so I can DIY after I fix/re-do the door situation myself. Uh. Thanks. Oh, but all those rockwool batts I'd paid for by the square foot, for which I'd paid extra to upgrade (from fiberglass, what they typically install) - yes, they took the remainder with them, which I don't even understand because they said they typically don't even use rockwool, whereas we could have used them.

On the plus side, they did all the pre-sale stuff well - came out on a weekend, spent a lot of time on the phone with us, responsive to texts, and immediate scheduling. (Hmm, but my Dad always told me to maybe be skeptical of contractors who aren't busy.)

Price - They are dishonest on estimates and will jack the price up on you ~30% last minute, after you've scheduled it or they've arrived onsite. They'll say that they "have to round up" on measurements. Our man waved a tape around and came up with a number 30 ft more than my measurement, 20ft more than his coworker the day before, and more than DOUBLE what MassSave had originally measured. Also, they include labor on every line item so, say, if you're getting fiberglass batts + foamboard + air sealing foam, you're paying 3x for the same 1 hour of labor. Their job wound up being $450 and $215 MORE than two other quotes respectively - but we went with JP in part because of all the great reviews and we appreciated their responsiveness. And ours was a super small area/job - took only 1.5 hours to do with just 1 guy. (The supervisor went and sat out on the front step on his phone the whole time.) They charged over $1k for 1.5 hours onsite - just 90 minutes - and about $200 of materials. That's more than a plumber, an electrician, a carpenter or any other skilled trade. Maybe no one is complaining in the reviews because MassSaves typically pays for most of these jobs - so I gather these guys are used to overcharging, I guess.

Totally not worth it, and I really regret not going with either of the 2 other companies who were both equally responsive, available, possibly more honest, perhaps better quality work, and most definitely cheaper by a lot. Guess we'll take the rest of our job ($3k-$4k left to do) to one of those other companies.

So - enjoy those extra "pennies" (quoting your supervisor) that you squeezed out of us, and enjoy this review, guys!
