Melki appeared to be a nice and respectful contractor at first. His work was average and his prices were competitive. I made the mistake of paying Melki in full prior to his completion of the job. Melki never returned to my project and still owes me approximelty $2,000 worth of work. He installed windows for me and left my living room wall exposed to the studs. He was supposed to frame the windows, dry wall the exterior, match the texture and paint it. The widow installation is all he did. It has been several months since he has been here. I call him constantly. Melki finally answered a blocked call of mine and swore he would show up the next day but never did. He screens my calls now and will not answer. I was nothing but nice to Melki and don't understand why he has treated me this way. All I can think of is that he is lazy and simply a crook. I would never do business with him again and do not recommend anyone else to do business with him either.

My mistake was to hire Melki without signing a formal contract, since I was not 100% sure about the scope of work. He did not ask for too much money upfront, and I paid him on weekly basis. Melki at first appears to be a nice friendly guy, but the details emerge later... Melki excels at demolition: this part of the project was done quickly with impressive results. Everything else - not so much. It started with minor annoyances, like his inability to estimate the amount of material he needs for the job, like how many square feet of wood flooring or tile he needs, including some overhead. This resulted in multiple trips to buy the same material (waste of time!). Then comes the complete inability to plan ahead even for a couple of days, which resulted in DAILY trips to Home Depot with minimum of 1 hour lost per trip (including to/fro travel time). Lastly, when it comes measuring things, this is not Melki's strong point: several holes were drilled in the wrong places into tile and wooden floor because of incorrect measurements! But all of the above are minor annoyances in light of the actual shoddy work. Here are a couple of examples. Melki installed a brand new toilet on two old rusted bolts, which turned out to be short for the new toilet. A set of toilet bolts is, like, $3.50 at Home Depot (where he went daily!). Result: toilet leaked at the base in two months and had to be repositioned at my expense. I mean, who does things like that?! Another example. Melki installed brand new windows in my house... and disappeared without finishing the exterior caulking! That was the last I saw him. A year later, when one of the windows leaked after rain (I had to hire someone else to do the caulking), I discovered that the internal foam insulation, done by Melki, had holes in the super-thin foam layer. This is the kind of thing you discover only when you take someone's work apart. So, now I am honestly worried what else done by Melki is going to go wrong. Not a pleasant feeling. I honestly cannot recommend Melki as a contractor. I think, at the core he is simply an irresponsible person with NO work ethic. He will screw you over, no matter how nice you are to him.
