Didn’t show on the Days he said he would. Had two other guys install dry wall and made a mess and took 2 days for a small bathroom. Now he won’t return calls, not that we want him back to complete the project but he didn’t perform $2000 worth of work. So not only did we lose some money but my wife rescheduled work days to be home and he was a no show. Looking up his Business and name we have found similar issues where he does bad work or runs off with money. Bad reviews from us for sure.

It would seem that I have a similar experience now with this Jason Lapay. He seems to know what he is talking about and presents to be a very nice person who is eager to work. I liked his presentation and offered him the work. I guess I should have looked up this business and online reviews first. This being said he doesn't show up when stated. We would be expecting him to show and work, rearranging our schedule to be home and a no show without the common courtesy of a phone call. Also getting in touch with him has been difficult. Initially he will reply or answer but once you call him out on no shows etc, good luck in getting a reply back. Not very dependable. I definitely wouldn't recommend any dealings with him knowing what I know and have read now after some internet research/BBB listings. He did some plumbing not the way we had discussed as I don't think he knew how to deal with a PEX Manifold System. He had 2 workers show up to start the drywall for him who made a complete mess of my Basement. They also had no tools and took twice as long as normal to hang the sheets. I have not heard from him and my loss isn't that great but matters will be dealt with through a magistrate now. Good luck but I had a horrible experience with him.

DO NOT go with this company. It was a complete nightmare. Jason seems like an honest decent man when you first meet him, but unfortunately he appears to be a pathological liar or a (bad) con-man.
I was told a start date, but as that rolled around he tried to push it back a week or so. Whatever, that wasn’t a big deal, but it just kept going.
1st Issue – When he comes to do the quote, Jason makes it seem as if he will be there every step of the way. He was there…..maybe three days out of the three weeks that construction was spanning. He sends in subcontractors that often don’t show up for days at a time and without any notice that they will not be there that day.
2nd Issue – They destroy everything in your house. Here is the list:
Ceiling - Second day, much like a previous reviewer, when our tub was being installed by one of his workers. There was a leak somehow through to our kitchen. They cleaned it up with MY OWN BATHTOWELS which they then threw in a heap in my basement. Did not tell me. The only way I found out was I came home and it was still leaking. I called and Jason said that it was leaking the whole time. Um no, we’ve lived at the house for over a year now, and nothing leaked until you guys came in and tore things out. Did they repair my kitchen ceiling? No.
Trash – Since they were only there roughly every three days, they thought it would be OK to leave all of their contracting garbage in my driveway. I called Jason and asked that they could remove it, he said sure, he would be out to get it. Naturally, he did not show up. Then I came home to the trash torn out and there were DIRTY DIAPERS ALL THROUGHOUT MY YARD AND DRIVEWAY. That’s right, they brought their own trash. I first took pictures, then I of course confronted Jason, who denied the existence of the trash and tried to claim it was someone else’s trash that they put UNDERNEATH their contracting garbage. People, I live at the end of a half mile long driveway. There is no one around us. At this point, after them not showing up for days at a time, the water, then this, I lost it. He claimed that he would be there the next day to check it out. Jason came the next day (I went into work late to make sure he was going to infact show up) and claimed that the garbage came from their last client. I was like “so wait, you brought someone else’s garbage, unloaded it at my house, to take somewhere else”. Apparently. They then cleaned up the garbage.
Shop Vac/Vacuum – I found my shop vac upstairs and they had been using it. They didn’t ask me. I thought that contractors brought their own things like that, but no big deal. However, during the weekend I needed to use it so I took it back down to the garage where it belongs and left it there. They must have needed the shop vac and instead of going down to the garage to get it, they used my actual shark vacuum and sucked up water and plaster. And left it that way. I freaked out on Jason, and he denied that they did it. He said he had their own shop vac. At this point, I just hung up on him because obviously he lives in a different reality than the rest of us, and I just wanted him gone. Flash forward to the last day they were here, Jason comes walking down my stairs with MY SHOP VAC. I’m like “hmmmmmm isn’t that mine” and he’s like “haha yeah, the kids handed it to me”. More on the kids thing later.
Sinks – They put plaster down our sink in the basement. We had to take apart the pipes and knock the plaster out. It was clogged for weeks.
I wanted so badly to tell them not to come back, but after the first day they were here, we were out $5,000 and didn’t want to lose that and beg another contractor to come.
We were leaving for vacation the next week and the work was not even started on the second bathroom. I guess with the $3,000 on the line he decided to get his butt in gear and somehow finished the second bathroom in three days.
Last day – I did not know this would be their last day and I come home from work to two pre-teens in my driveway. THEY BROUGHT TWO OF THEIR CHILDREN TO MY HOUSE UNBEKNOWSED TO ME. It was “take your kid to work day” they said. There were two preteens running around my house all day unsupervised. They could have at least ran it by me.
Quality of work: Meh. By the way, if you have your own ideas, just throw them out the window because they do what they want. They claim that it’s a total bathroom rehaul – but they charge you extra to PAINT THE WALLS! And forget about trying to pick a vanity that you want. Jason will “forget” to order it then push his Ebay special on you and you will be so desperate to get these degenerates out of your house that you will do whatever. He couldn’t even meet me halfway with the floor tile. I wasn’t picking out top of the line stuff, just different than what he had in mind. He couldn’t special order anything. Even though I gave him a list (and $5,000) in advance.

Stay far away from JRL Remodeling (Jason Lapay) as months later I am sitting with only a partially completed kitchen and do not get returned phone calls or emails. Throughout the process I was totally mislead and inferior products were used even though better products were contracted.

Jason took two installments of three payments and quit the job leaving trash and debris and tools throughout the house. I have since discovered that he used to operate under the name of J&B Remodeling until the complaints against him brought him a BBB "F" grade and he was barred from Angie's List. Stay away from this contractor. He's sloppy, careless and dishonest.

Thoughts?
Jason can and sometimes does great work. However, he is not responsible and not reliable. He claimed to have insurance but actually never had it until I pressed him for a copy of his insurance certificate. I actually called his agent and learned that he had just purchased insurance that day. He said he would come at a certain time and hours later he showed up. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and Jason ended up doing a good job on my bathroom but, unfortunately I recommended him to a friend who he screwed over by not showing up, using the wrong wallboard for tile work in a bathroom, trying to send two "employees" who didn't know what they were doing and admitted they didn't know how to do tile work. Now he refuses to return calls - guess a trip to magistrate is in order.
Jason is very personable and has an excuse for every bad review on the web. A competitor, a previous partner, home owner adding to job and not paying him, family issues, etc. Jason can but for some reason finds it impossible to do the right thing all of the time. You are rolling the dice when you hire him - don't know if the responsible one or the one who lies to your face will show up. He insists on a third at time of signing and another the day he starts....crap shoot on whether you get anything for it. There are a lot of good contractors out there - the old saying you get what you pay for is definitely true in this case. I hate to say it but run - don't walk away from this contractor! I had originally wanted this review to be positive but I cannot in good conscience give him a recommendation. Too bad - can't be trusted.
