I called JR’s Plumbing to repair a leak in the bathroom of a shop space in an industrial building in Santa Rosa. He came and looked at the project and gave me an estimate of $250 to $350. According to the tenant, he was in and out several times before the job was completed.
When I received the invoice I was shocked. The amount charged was $860.
When I called to question the charge he stated the toilet had to be removed and replaced twice to get to the pipe in the wall and that it was going to be removed and replaced one more time after the drywall behind the toilet was replaced by the contractor (the contractor’s charge is separate). And each time the toilet has to be removed there is a standard charge of $120.
That charge was certainly not discussed with me prior to the work. I cancelled the drywall repair with the contractor JR’s Plumbing referred and subtracted $120 from the bill since JR will not be replacing the toilet again.
At the time he was at the property another tenant asked him to do a repair in her unit. He was unable to find the parts to do the repair but charged her $450. to shut off the water under the building. She refused to pay more than $300. I agreed to pay an additional $150. When I received the invoice it was for an additional $235.
I will neither use this company again nor recommend them to anyone.
