We recently hired Juarez Construction (JCI) @juarezconstruction #juarezconstruction to fast-track a renovation of approximately 140 square feet of interior space that was estimated to take 5-6 weeks that took 14 weeks.
The project was moving at a good pace until I.C.E. @icegov #icegov announced their raids and two workers disappeared. One might question JCI’s hiring practices? Those workers were caught on our Ring security system removing construction material from the job site in the early hours and were never seen again. Needles to say, the project came to screeching halt for almost a week.
That incident pushed our project past the expected completion target and the work slowed to a crawl for the remaining time they worked on the property. JCI refused to send more than one, sometimes two guys at a time to accelerate or complete the work - probably because they moved on to the next project. The CEO who almost never visited the job site to check on the work, was easily accessible when it was time for his check, but often ghosted us for days afterwards, sometimes along with his crew. This was a trend throughout the course of the entire project.
Aside from their below-average workmanship which they liked to say was an “industry standard,” they damaged many pieces of personal property along the way - most of it new items that were being installed with the renovation. They accrued almost $10K in valued damage calculated at replacement and labor to replace. Some examples:
Ruined the finish of a $1K Kohler tub
Installed a mosaic tile surround incorrectly resulting in a mis-match pattern
Subway tile improperly installed and crooked
New walls erected and not plumb
Vanity finishes ruined by their cleaning products and messy work conditions
Toilet finishes ruined by improper storage during renovation
Flooring and wall damage caused by messy work conditions
Deck surface ruined because they refused to protect it and did a very bad job painting over the damage
They dumped grout waste water into planter beds and in the yard which has since hardened and killed anything greenSo that’s short list - obviously we can never recommend them to anyone and unfortunately for them, they lost out on the opportunity for future work planned for the house (windows, doors, and kitchen) that will add up over a 100K. Juarez Construction, Inc of Whittier, CA = No bueno.

Multiple construction defects from this contractor. He built a two story home for us and we had a leaky shower pan on the second floor that led to toxic mold, leaky roof and had to have the entire roof redone, and leaky patio. Falsified insurance.
