    Install Doors
    $600
    2 days

I guess I will start with the positive side. He and his helper were both very nice polite folks. Unfortunately, there is much more on the negative side to mention than the positive. Hired to install 6 prehung doors and 2 bifold closet doors. He said it should take no longer than 2 days.
Day 1 Thursday- an hour and 15 minutes late from his already late start time of 10:30. I went and picked up what he said he needed while they started. He said prehung doors should take no longer than 45 minutes each. The 1st door was almost 4 hours. The second door they spent an hour installing backwards before I corrected him on what we discussed earlier in the day. He said it made sense not to block another doorway and he had just forgotten. He did take the hour they worked off of the bill. 2nd door was not finished by the time they left. He said he would call me if he would be able to come back they next day (something about it being his girlfriends birthday so I guess he was taking the day off). He did call in the afternoon to tell me they weren't working that day.
Day 2 Monday- two hours late today. Nearly finished the 2nd door before moving on to the 3rd. Nearly finished it by the end of the day.
Day 3 Tuesday- called to say he would be 45 minutes late. This would be the 3rd day of a 2 day project. Doors that he said should take 45 minutes to install had taken 13 hours to install 3 off them (only one was completely installed). At this point I told him we would be hiring someone else who was more professional to finish the job. He apologized (he is a very nice person).
I'm not sure how he has stayed in business. I wish I had seen the review section prior to hiring him. Most of what he explained to me while working he was wrong about. Then he made excuses about what things were called must have changed. Excuses seem to be his specialty. Perhaps he should rename his business JW Excuses Services LLC instead.

Very Unprofessional. Did not begin work until almost noon and wanted to stay until after 7pm. A typical work day does NOT begin that late. We had a newborn and did not appreciate the work going on at night while she was trying to sleep. James also asked for advances in pay before half of the work was even completed; VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. The project extended past the anticipated date of completion as well. Once it was finally completed, my wife had to clean up cigarette butts out of the landscape. I will not ever call this guy back nor will I suggest him to anyone else. I gave him 1 star because he was cheap- now I know why. Bad decision on our part.

Bottom line up front: James is incompetent, wasteful, and slow, with no sense of pride in his workmanship. He was unable to correctly install a simple shower stall kit, leaving behind a leaky, sagging mess that had to be completely scrapped and replaced by another contractor. DO NOT HIRE FOR BATHROOM OR PLUMBING WORK.

    The details:

Contracted James (plus one "helper") for shower repair -- tiles were falling out and the whole thing needed to be replaced. I paid James to make a run to the local Home Depot to pick up materials, including the shower kit (floor pan and walls), drywall, and (for some reason) a full case of caulk. The shower kit was thin guage, shoddy material. The caulk, I would later learn, was completely incorrect for plumbing/bathroom work. So was James.

He did everything slowly, taking hours to make incorrect decisions. His truck would arrive in time, but James was slow to begin work and he wants to bill you for "setting up his tools", which seems to involve lots of talking on his cell phone. Once engaged, James would measure everything within arms' reach, multiple times, before cutting things to improper dimensions.

He left the plastic packaging on one shower wall when installing it, and would have left it that way if I hadn't pointed it out to him. Later we would find that he DRILLED HOLES in the SHOWER FLOOR PAN.

When he was done, there was a visible gap around the perimeter of the shower where the wall met the floor pan. I don't know what James thought would keep water from pouring out of this gap -- my guess is that James never noticed it.

After working five days on a two day project, James was satisfied and interested in starting another project. I paid him for his work, fired him from any further work, and immediately felt better.

Hoping to salvage something from the ordeal, I used the caulk that James purchased to seal the shower wall to the floor. I had a full case left over, as well as a sheet and a half of drywall. Closer inspection revealed that James had taken a two inch strip from the full sheet, wasting the entire sheet and preventing me from returning the sheet to Home Depot.

The shower leaked, and caulk wasn't going to help. James hadn't braced or leveled the shower properly to begin with, and the shower floor shifted when it was stepped on.

Hired another contractor to fix the shower. He tore out everything, bought different materials, and installed a shower stall in two days. According to the new guy, James just didn't know what he was doing.

    DO NOT HIRE.

I have admit I am a little picky when comes to choosing a contractor as I have had some bad luck in the past. Always the same problems with most of the contractors I hired, they either start the project and you don't see them again after you give them the initial down payment for the next two weeks or they rush through the project trying to cut corners every way they can so they can get paid and move on to the next job. I hired James and his crew to remodel my basement and didn't run into any of these problems in all they were very friendly, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and overall respectable to me and my home, they were always here when they said they would be, did a beautiful job, and didn't cut any corners. I won't use anyone else to do my future projects. very nice job guys!!! TWO THUMBS UP

I recently bought a house that needed several things done via, 2 broken windows, old rotten kitchen sink cabinet, bathroom needed to be gutted including new shower sink vanity and faucet, old out dated electric outlets, and the list goes on and on, The guys came in and had it all done in 5 days without a single flaw. James is very knowledgeable about what he does and was able to help save me money on materials by suggesting different types of materials that worked and looked equally as good as what I had previously thought I needed and priced ( in all his suggestions saved me a little over $300 in materials alone, ) The guys were very polite and staid busy working despite the insane heat they endured, and was able to get the job done quickly. Thanks for all your hard work guys you did a great Job I definitely would recommend you to anyone. I will be calling you when me and my family get settled in to tear out and rebuild the deck. THANKS AGAIN!!
    GREAT JOB!!!
    Sincerely

This contractor, James, changed my "start" day twice, and tried another time to push me back to do another job. He was an hour and a half late, brought his 11-12 ish yr old son and another kid. Between the three, there was total disorganization and the young boy, although very polite, ran in and out of my home a million times. Not to belittle, but these little jobs were just not thought through, and as a result, not completed. Surely NOT worth the $35 hr for "two handymen" Long story short, I now have no water outside, (cut the water line and couldn't fix) a storm door handle laying in pieces, (he spent well over an hr messing with it), a cabinet door off, and several other projects "started" but not finished. This is all simple, piddly stuff!! Also some serious damage was done to my landscaping when a couple boards were removed to make it easier for him to reach the garden faucet, causing lots of lanscape rocks to landslide into outside copper piping. This entire mess was achieved in 7.5 hours and I'm out 262.50. Thank God he didn't start any of the large projects. You better believe I sent them packing.

The guys involved may have fluctuated a bit throughout the job but each employee pulled their own weight from what I observed. They came out to finish work (over a total of 2 weeks - it was a lot of work!!) Rain or shine! They cleaned up their mess each day - not many contractors do that anymore... Very big deal for myself and my family.

My favorite moment in the entire ordeal -- The second day that they had all shown up, James himself remembered my 7 year old daughter's name and answered her questions (no matter how annoying she must have gotten) all day long. She happened to be in school the rest of their work days, luck James!

All in all, great family man, dependable help, and they finished the project flawlessly, i would recommend them to anyone and everyone.

    -Micheal J.
