I recently hired Kang Construction/Design Media Construction to work on my Media/Theater room, and while the construction and painting aspects of the project were excellent, I am disappointed with the issues I encountered with the "surround sound" installation and the lack of responsiveness from the company.
The scope of the project included closing off a window opening leading to the hallway, creating a media closet, painting the room, hanging a projector from the ceiling, and adding "surround sound" speakers in the ceiling. The construction and painting work were executed flawlessly, and I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail and the quality of the craftsmanship. We were so satisfied that we even paid extra for them to paint our kids' rooms, and that was done to our satisfaction as well.
However, our disappointment arises from the "surround sound" installation. Approximately a week after the completion of the construction, we noticed that movies and shows on streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu, that have full surround sound, had barely audible voices or no voices at all. While sound effects and music came through loud and clear, the dialogue was faint or absent. This issue significantly impacted our viewing experience and rendered the surround sound system ineffective. You can see the issue for yourself in this video: [link to video](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cFa1JMXLoLE2i3NrMFLDbX6nIFYDEt71/view?usp=drivesdk).
Upon researching the problem, I discovered that a center speaker (the 5th speaker) was missing from the installation. The contract clearly stated that the project included the speakers and the receiver necessary for a proper surround sound system. I promptly contacted John, the owner, to address the issue, and he directed me to communicate with the Project Manager, Lino. Lino provided a link to a speaker and a quote for its installation, implying that we would be charged for the additional work. This response was surprising and frustrating, as the contract explicitly stated that the speakers were included in the project.
When I raised this concern with Lino, he initially claimed that the contract was misworded and that they had meant for it to say it included only four speakers. This explanation seemed unreasonable to me, as a binding contract should not contain such glaring mistakes. I made several attempts to reach out to John regarding this matter, but unfortunately, he has chosen to ignore my messages, exacerbating my disappointment and leaving the issue unresolved.
The lack of accountability and responsiveness from Kang Construction/Design Media Construction regarding this matter is disheartening. I had initially considered hiring them for additional work around the house, but based on this experience, I am now hesitant to proceed. It is disappointing to encounter such a lack of professionalism and customer care, especially after the excellent construction and painting work they provided.
In conclusion, while Kang Construction/Design Media Construction delivered great results in terms of construction and painting, their failure to provide a functional surround sound system and their subsequent lack of response and accountability have left me disappointed and dissatisfied. I urge potential clients to be cautious and ensure that all aspects of their project are clearly outlined and agreed upon in the contract, and to be prepared for potential communication issues.
