Kanler Construction
Kanler is a construction company that cares about our customers. We offer the best prices, best quality of work and best customer experience in the bay area. We do everything from remodeling bathrooms and kitchens to building custom homes.
If you are starting out with no plans or permits you will initially meet with both a general contractor and an architect. We are a design+build company so we will take care of both your pre-construction and construction needs. The General contractor will answer all of your construction related questions while the architect will try to understand what exactly you envision your place to look like telling you at the same time what is and is not feasible. If you already have plans and/or permits that’s great, that means you’ve already gone through the pre-construction and thus will only need to meet with the general contractor.

By Anusha.v.August 20, 2019House remodel + addition$599,996
We hired them in May 2018 for an extensive remodel+addition. Several delays, poor workmanship and change orders that were due to their negligence, unfamiliarity with construction, poor project management and below average sub-contractors. In April 2019, Rajiv Agarwal claimed he underbid several contracts including ours and was not going to be able to complete as originally promised. He bounced checks for several subs that we ultimately had to compensate them directly. He washed his hands out of the project at drywall stage. We are still scrambling to get it done. Awful experience and would warn to stay away from at all costs. For some reason, when we checked BuildZoom in 2018 - we never saw the poor reviews. We would never have chosen them if they were visible then.

By DesigncoJune 17, 2019Support Beam$11,000
We would not recommend this contractor. We are a fabrication company located in Menlo Park and Kanler construction hired us to build a very expensive Header Beam. Once we completed the product and they picked up the material, Kanler wrote a bad check and closed their office doors. Beware!!!!! We are going after them for the monies owed.

They can always be relied upon to deliver a professional service in a friendly supportive manner and liaise with staff to offer the best advice in order to undertake a task. They are always on hand at the end of the phone and their work is always of exceptional standard. Thanks for a job well done. It is with every confidence and without hesitation that I would have no reservations at all in recommending Kanler.

Contractor keep delaying in getting the quote. Promising no less than three times and passed the deadline three times. At the end, I had to call him to check on the progress and he told me he no longer work for the company. No one from the company contacted me about the change...

By Angie B.April 6, 2017Renovating the kitchen, adding 600sqft, remodeling 2 bathroom and the garage$590,00080 days
********* DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY ********** learn for our mistake! This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with.
They claim to be general contractors but I am not sure they can read a plans.
I had a large renovation. Renovating the kitchen, adding 600sqft, remodeling 2 bathroom and the garage. Multiple bids but different companies and Kanler came in the low middle. Approximately $480-590k including materials. My experience with them was bad!!!. I felt that they were trying to cut corners. They bid the work out to subcontractors with the lowest bids. Their whole goal was generate maximum profit. without any quality control over the subcontractors that came to do the work.
Small example we failed inspection twice. first was for safety reasons. Instead of doing the plumbing correctly and safely they ran plumbing through most of the studs in a bottom floor 2/3 which weakened entire structure. The city inspector made them do the joists which was an additional $12000 cost to me. Even though it was their mistake. We failed the second inspection because unsafe electrical work.
Their plumber was so dumb that he left a hole in my roof that had to be patched after water leak. There were many other problems that at are too many to mention.
After they were done I had to hire someone else to go through and fix all the little details and problems they left.
Fyi my pm was Richard so be careful

By Cecilia K.March 13, 2017Verified Hire3 months in and 3 months delayed
It's still early days considering we still haven't started the build process, but if it goes the way it is going so far, we should be about a year behind.
We signed the contract early Nov for a design/ build on an existing home, no addition. 3 months in we have had 1 meeting and are still waiting for the permit to be submitted. We are supposed to be done in July. What we've had a lot of though are project managers. We are already onto our 3rd, as well as various people who are supposed to be dealing with our project. They started demolition without getting a permit so we got a complaint from the local council. It took them 2 months and they still can't provide a quote for windows, our appliance and fixture questions are unanswered after 2 months. Nobody seems to know the scope of the project, and I have to explain everything every time. Don't expect the project managers to manage your project, if you are not doing it yourself and chasing them every week, don't expect anything to get done.
Maybe they will do a good job at the end, and maybe all of them string you along and only work for those who make the loudest noise, maybe my expectation was too high, but 4 months in, I am not impressed and can not recommend them to anybody -
By Marta S.January 24, 2017Remodeling project74 days
After talking to several contractors we decided to go with Kanler because the timeliness in responding and giving us an estimate. Some other contractors didn't have email or weren’t responsive in answering the phone/text. Kanler is really up to date with technology. Email and text is part of their communication.
Overall my husband and I are very happy with the outcome of the project. Kanler followed the timeline as closely as permitted and is very knowledgeable about all the aspects of the remodeling process. They helped us a lot by giving us advice and suggestions for products and solutions that matches our taste and stayed within budget.
We worked with John and Fernando and I found working with them very pleasant. They are both very professional and knowledgeable, and they always responded to our questions and comments in a timely manner.
Kanler's service is slightly more expensive, however, if you want high quality and efficiency you will enjoy working with them.

I truly had a positive experience with Kanler. Everybody from the interior designer to the project manager was very professional. They were respectful of my home and walked me through every questions I had. Now my family and I are satisfied with our upgraded kitchen and downstairs flooring. Again, one of the most positive experiences I've had with a general contractor.

By MicahMay 12, 2016New bedroom. Remodeled kitchen paint job$145,00014 days
I contacted John for a 1000 sqft addition and a very tight timeline (6 months!). I was getting my house ready for rent and he was quick to respond, quoted a much more reasonable price compared to another highly rated company, and was able to meet the deadline I needed. The work was done ahead of schedule, with great results. John was professional, in good communication, and I will definitely use him as my "go to" from now on. Kanler is highly recommended!

By Angela S.January 18, 2016Kitchen remodel$45,00025 daysThe experience was out of the world fantastic!
We hired Kanler to remodel our kitchen and are very happy with the outcome. Kanler was the only company that gave us the kind of confidence we needed for the success of our project given the crazy busy schedules my husband and I have given our jobs and two kids. They follow an Uber-like model where they put together a team for our project - electrician, plumber, granite-guy, tile-guy, etc. Everyone chosen for our project was a specialist and ONLY did that; not a generalist like some of the other GCs we spoke to would have provided. This approach also helped us get the best cost because a lot of professionals were contacted by Kanler for our project and only the reasonably priced ones were finally selected by Kanler. To top it all off, given their dashboard on their website, we were able to follow along the progress of our project, given comments/inputs for the choice of our faucets, appliances and other items we wanted to choose. Overall, the experience was so painless and so rewarding at the end. We would highly recommend Kanler to anybody!

By Igor K.October 4, 2015New construction137 daysThey listened to me and did what I wanted
I hired Kanler to build me a guest house with two bedrooms, one living, dining, kitchen combo and two bathrooms so that I can rent it and make some money on the side through airbnb to fund my retirement. My budget was very thin. Kanler was able to come in, find a team of workers for me that would fit my budget, and got the job done really well. Coming from Russia, I do not trust people in general and definitely not general contractors. They are all out there to trick you, to give you a big change order, to abandon your project in the middle to go find new work, and all kinds of nasty things GCs do. But Kanler is definitely changing that perception. They are a team of Stanford students bringing disruptive change to the construction industry, like a good silicon valley startup would do. They are changing the notorious image of GCs. They listened to me, to my needs, to the needs of my project and did everything accordingly. I highly recommend them to anybody. God bless them.
