By Jenna S.August 14, 2017Entire home remodel$74,000
I hired Kargmans in May 2016 to oversee a 74k remodel on my home. To this date, over one year later a large portion of the work is incomplete / and or defective. I have given them numerous chances to remedy the situation, it has only gotten worse. The workers they send are unskilled and unsupervised, they never know what they are supposed to repair or how to get the job done. Rarely have they shown up with the correct materials even. They did such a bad job on my 15k hardwood floor replacement that they need to be completely pulled up and replaced. They have disappeared and stopped returning phone calls. They left me with moldy rotting drywall after the roof repair I paid for was never completed. This was four months ago. I have since paid another contractor to remedy their work, and have filed complaints with the state licensing boards .Arthur promised to settle with me, but has since stopped returning calls and has not wired the money as promised over 90 days ago.

The first time I hired Kargmans, they sent someone who knew what he was doing. He nicely installed an interior door. The second time, I hired them, they sent a team of idiots who likely had never done even the simplest handyman work in their lives. They installed a storm door upside down and backwards--of course it didn't work, but they managed to ruin the $450 door in the process. I had to lead them through demolishing a plywood subfloor; it took about 3 times as long as it should have. But the coup d'etat was when a worker who was supposed to be painting a small patch of ceiling refused my offer of a solo cup and paint brush to do the job. Instead he took an entire gallon of primer up a ladder. He tried balancing the gallon on the ladder while he dipped a full sized paint roller in the gallon. No tray. Just shoving the roller into the can and onto ceiling. Had I seen what he was attempting, I would have stopped it, but who expects anyone--let alone someone who is supposed to be a professional--to attempt THAT. Both he and the gallon of primer fell off the ladder spraying primer all over my living room, including a computer/keyboard/mouse, 4 shelves of irreplaceable antique books, a fireplace hearth, a coat closet (and contents), hardwood floors, the front door, exposed brick--just endless items. I argued with Kargman for weeks over email until finally I sent the whole slew of emails plus a few photos to American Express. AmEx gave me all my money back, no questions asked.
