The Weil McLain boiler/furnace in my home was only heating some of the rooms and sometimes it wouldn't kick on, so I called KEE heating and cooling. The first time he was here, it only took him about 15 minutes, the second time he was here, he said he replaced 5 parts in the furnace, (there's only 6 total) and now it kicks on but still no heat in the farthermost rooms from the boiler and he told me the zone valves were bad and he couldn't fix them. He was here for 40 minutes the second time and the bill was $1711.00 and that included the first service call that took 15 minutes. I asked him for an itemized invoice to see what I was paying for and according to the paper he printed off his computer, NOT AN INVOICE, and it has no prices or part numbers on it, he says he replaced the FLAME SENSOR, the CONTACTOR WHICH IS NOTHING BUT A RELAY SWITCH, THE SAFETY PRESSURE SWITCH, THE PILOT LIGHT BURNER AND THE GAS VALVE SOLENOID. Since he gave me no part numbers or prices, I took the model number off the furnace and looked up the parts and prices myself. Walmart had the gas valve and Weil McLain had the rest online. The flame sensor is $14.95, Relay is $18.95, pressure switch is $36.95, pilot light orifice is $2.25 and the gas valve solenoid is $90.00 from Walmart. Grand Total is $197.80 without tax. So subtract $197.80 from $1711.00 and that leaves, HE SCREWED ME BIGTIME OUT OF $1513.20. Now here's what he wrote on the paper he printed off his computer. QUOTE"These parts were replaced in order to eliminate ALL mercury based switches from the system" Did you notice it doesn't say anything about replacing the parts to FIX the problem but rather to replace ALL mercury based switches and would you like to know how many mercury based switches were in it? ONE! yes, only ONE, and it's the Flame Sensor that goes for $14.95. Now on the sheet of paper he gave me, NOT AN INVOICE, he makes it appear that it was absolutely necessary to replace ALL of those mercury based switches and that it was a very bad thing if I didn't. He also wrote on the NON INVOICE SHEET OF PAPER HE GAVE ME, QUOTE "In ADDITION to these parts,(Yes, he says in ADDITION to these parts) KEE Heating and Cooling performed a service call (the one that took 15 minutes) and they cleaned the flame sensor and the furnace worked normally for a while then stopped." (So by what you just read, what part in the furnace is bad? The Flame Sensor) Now here's the rest of what he wrote. QUOTE "Upon calling Weil McLane, KEE Heating and Cooling was advised that switches containing mercury were no longer available and in order to repair the boiler, a kit was available that eliminated all mercury based switches from the system. (This is a total LIE, there are no kits, they never sold any such kits and why would you need a kit when there's only one part in the furnace that has mercury in it) After advising the homeowner, they elected to install the kit rather than replacing the boiler/furnace. The following price includes the installation of the kit and the initial service call" Price: $1711.00
There's no part numbers, no prices, no kit listed, no tax or totals listed, no names who preformed the work, just a cell phone number and KEE's address.
If I can buy all those parts for $197.00 and we double that price, that still leaves over $1300 he charged me for a service call an less than an hour worth of work and the heat in my back rooms still didn't work until the new guy came and fixed it all and showed me what KEE did and didn't do. Here's what they did: They ripped me off over $1500 dollars
Here's what they didn't do: FIX ME FURNACE
