We used Kevin Reed Construction for a whole home renovation. We knew what we wanted, and had plans drawn out for everything. Up front he's a good salesperson, but when it comes down to the actual work, process, communication etc. he is extremely lacking in many many ways. There were countless times that he would blatantly lie to us saying something had been completed, but when we made a site visit it had definitely not been. There were many times things were not completed properly and had to be ripped out because he didn't oversee his trades well enough and ensure things like drains and water lines were installed or renovated properly. We had asked him to do things in a specific way, on more than one occasion, and he would say "yeah yeah yeah" then weeks later we'd check to see if it was done the way we asked and it would be completely different. He would then say we never told him or he just "couldn't" do it that way. We are very familiar with building and know what can and cannot be done. The project timeline and budget literally both ended up being 200% more than what was estimated when it was all said and done. We would get bills that were extremely inflated- just for one example we got a bill for approx. $1200 just for one of his workers to take outdoor furniture cushions inside during a storm. We ended up having to manage the job to ensure things were done right, and things didn't continue to drag out. The trim would still have nails hanging out of it by about half an inch or more and curled over that would be left just to be painted over. He had a blatant disrespect, or consideration for our life or the completion and use of our home. He didn't care what the finished product looked like. There was no pride in his work or that of his workers or trades people. Another thing is that we would pay Kevin for something like plumbing fixtures then months later would have the plumbing supply house salesperson reaching out to us asking when they were going to receive payment. This is a HUGE liability because vendors or trades who aren't paid can legally put a lien on your property. And this wasn't the only instance we had Kevin's vendors reaching out to us asking for payment when we had paid him for their product or service LONG before. Also, after the project had gone on for some time and we were seeing all bad work practices we checked up to see if he actually had his general contractors license in the state of South Carolina, and we could not locate one in his name or his company name anywhere. This is public knowledge, so it should've been available to reference.... I would HIGHLY discourage anyone from using Kevin Reed Construction. We regret using him, and would not trust him to even come back to do any repairs etc. down the line. He really honestly needs to be in building material sales, and not a "contractor".... If you are considering Kevin Reed, at a minimum, ask for at least a few homeowner references as well as vendor references.
