By Paris C.February 4, 2022Residential build
We had structural, electrical, foundation problems. He used damaged components. Allowed our expensive gas logs to be glued in our ventless fireplace. His sub used no less than 15 3” screws to arrange the logs. NOT HOW TO INSTALL THOSE GAS LOGS. Bricks in window sills are falling out. Wanted to be paid before our construction was finished. Complained we were cheating him and he walked away with our money, never to return, even though our house wasn’t finished. Complained I was questioning his building expertise because I asked too many questions. Sent his subs to other projects to prolong our build for months. Either doesn’t know the building codes or doesn’t care about the codes because he said he didn’t have to build by a code in rural areas. We had to sue him to get necessary repairs, deficiencies we knew about then. Even still, our house is still not right. Yes, we have pictures and documentation.

Kevin Slakey Custom Homes is our go-to builder. Kevin is a very through and contentious builder - accommodating our requests and making sure we are pleased with the final outcome. We rely on Kevin's expert knowledge to provide suggestions as needed and he is happy to build based upon our requests. His team is just as thorough - electrical, AC, paint, siding, plumbing, tile, rock - they all get it done right. Looking forward to working with Kevin soon on our next cabin!

absolutely not, uses some good subs, horrible electrical work, puts bath sink about 18" from shower, patches rather than correct, puts light fixture in middle of LR wall, that goes next to door, installs broken porch light, when called to correct he puts clear glass, other pieces are fog, installs damaged dryer vent, installs FP insert with no glass, lots of space between grates (Cheap), does what he wants, not what customer pays for. Doesn't want to stick with contract wants to be paid before job is finished & squeels you are trying to beat him out of money, ask for ceiling fan in kitchen, said it was wired for a light. Half cleaned the yard, left huge pieces of cement, but managed to take the bricks after asking him not to. only gives you one key to the house, uses a great painter, uses great clear water system. good A/C man, charged me extra for suitable size A/C complained that I wanted screens (they come with the windows) doesn't let you pick out your own appliances, he goes by the color you want, not brand, doesn't put TV wire where asked, Had to have him re-wire MB, when turn on switch, on came the fan, had to pass commode, shower to find the light switch, said it was code, finally switched light & fan, hung lights to left of mirrows...Structurally we think the house is ok, the finish/clean up looks very salvage. Wanted white sink, he argued why I shouldn't., gave in & accepted his much cheaper stainless...TOO MUCH TO MENTION!

I bought one of his homes 20 years later. The bath tub drain wasnt connected for all of that time and eroded to the point of slab failure. One brick outside door opening was 1 inch out of plumb. No quality.
