    New home construction
    $280,000

As a general contractor Kelvin Green did not stay on top of his sub-contractors very well and a lot of problems have been surfacing in our home since we moved in 3 years ago. During construction, Kelvin redesigned the roof trusses to something completely different than what was agreed to on the pre-build design review. He changed the hip roof design we specified and made it a gable design across the entire span of the house without even telling us. We didn't know about the change until the framers started placing the trusses. The framers also installed vertical supports in the basement for wood beams that ran perpendicular to the floor trusses. Unfortunately, they did not install the supports over the poured footings in the basement. Also they didn't load the supports, so they were essentially just "dangling" and not providing any support. The contractor that hung the drywall did not float the ceiling near interior walls and after a few cold seasons and experiencing some serious truss lift, all of the tape for the wall/ceiling joints has pulled apart on the interior walls. We had specified a 9' ceiling height in the basement, but after the final grade to the property was made, our house seemed to sit higher than it should. When they poured concrete for the front and back porches we ended up with a 3 step rise. I'm pretty sure they only dug an 8' basement and so now with the 9' basement ceiling the house looks like it sits higher than it should have. The vent caps for the two main floor bathroom exhaust fans were installed so far from the bathrooms that the steam condensates before it leaves the caps and runs back down into the bathroom fan and drips on the bathroom floor.
