I hired Bob Kitchell, aka Kitchell Construction, to do a $74000 remodel to my home. The results were very disappointing. We worked on a plan for a few weeks and finally agreed on a list of work items and a budget including a payment plan. Two weeks after starting Mr Kitchell wanted to switch to a cost-plus arrangement (bait and switch) which I never agreed to except for changes to the original plan. There were a few changes to the work including both additions and deletions that would have been an approximate $5000 difference. Tear-out was just OK, Rebuild of one wall resulted in a very crooked wall which is next to a shower resulting in significant problems. On several occasions Mr Kitchell ordered the wrong materials including doors, paint, $400 worth of hinges. Mr Kitchell took it upon himself to build stairs, install exterior doors and purchase other items without first talking to me. The biggest trouble was with the dry wall. Mr Kitchell did not fill large gaps in the corners and attempted to use vynal inside corners with nothing to glue to. Dry wall was a total disaster as was the texturing that was applied too wet and runny on some places and very thin in others. It took Mr Kitchell 5 weeks to apply the dry wall and create a disaster that normally would have taken only 2 weeks for a skilled crew to finish correctly. At this point the project was approximately 50% complete with major problems but the entire budget had been used up. I dismissed Mr Kitchell because I no longer had any confidence that he was qualified or capable of finishing the project and providing quality workmanship. Additionally, Mr Kitchell has dubious billing practices including double billing for several high dollar items and inaccurate hours worked. My opinion is that there are many other contractors who will provide quality work and complete your project for the quoted amount. I do NOT recommend Kitchell Construction.
