By Michael M.December 2, 2019Verified HireDecks and Porches project - very "unclean"Response from Klean Contracting December 3, 2019Hello Micheal, I would like to apologize for the experience that you had with us on this project. We acknowledge that our performance was well below adequate in many areas of the work specifically communication and setting correct expectations. As you stated in the review, customers should expect a realistic schedule and regular communication with their contractor. This is something we whole heatedly agree with. Our goal is to communicate to homeowners multiple times a week on the progression of the project and to give proper expectations. We were overly optimistic to think the work could be completed in 8 days even with ideal conditions. Furthermore, although significant delays came from rain and ground moisture we did not properly communicate the extent to which the ground moisture would delay the work. Additionally we did not continue with regular updates regarding new timelines, expectations, and information on work to come. These are all areas in which we did not meet our own expectations. We will use this experience to reevaluate our communications with out customers to help better ourselves moving forward.

Other than the high quality concrete patio work, this was the worst experience possible. The process lasted over 3 months from initial contract set-up to completion. The initial consultation was okay and 'of course' we were promised prompt response and delivery. Every step of the way WE had to reach out to Klean for an update, when they should have been informing us. Here are some details:
1. It took almost 3 weeks just to get a signed contract
2. It took another 3 weeks to get started, THEN
3. They didn't have the right equipment available, so we lost another week.
4. They tore up our yard, left equipment for literally WEEKS without any work being done... or call or email to let us know WHY.
5. On no less than five occasions, I had to request a schedule update/explanation AFTER a key deliverable was not met. I was promised work on a certain day, only to have no one show up and not receive notification why no one was showing up.
6. I was promised deadlines, only to have none of them met....and beg for an explanation. The original schedule had an 8-day timeline. Physical work took 7 weeks to complete. I understand unforeseen circumstances arrive, but I also expect two things:
A - produce a 'realistic' schedule (not idealistic)
B - communicate when delays occur (not go silent)
7. Final item: overages - I requested an up front estimate of the proposed changes. I saw nothing in writing until the final bill. I eliminated a good portion of work and was told that the alternate could get rolled in without 'much' cost difference. Bad joke.
Long story short, do NOT use this contractor.
