Kohr & Sons

Kohr and Sons were hired to renovate an existing fiberglass tub and shower surround to a new tub with tiled wall surround. They had been recommended by a friend who had their entire bathroom redone. The difference between projects was shocking and overall infuriating!!!! For my friend, with the larger project, they brought in an actual plumber and expert in tile. For us, a smaller project, they attempted to do it themselves without an expert to inspect or assist in the project. This company is trying to be a jack-of-all trades, but in doing so they are essentially a master of NONE! We refused to hire them for our other bathroom remodel and after we had our other bathroom done by licensed experts we now see the differences and realize how AWFUL Kohr and Sons is!!! Our tile work is crooked, chipped at the cuts, grout lines are not evenly filled. Our shower niche is crooked as well. When installing the faucet they cut the copper pipe too short and their attempted fix has left us with too much back pressure and a leaking shower head! We asked them to have a plumber come in and help fix the issue and they REFUSED! We have since had to hire our own plumber at our cost and were told that in order to fix the problem the entire shower head wall would have to be ripped open to re-extend the cooper pipe they cut too short!! Also after initial install they did not seat the tub drain correctly and when using our tub for the 1st time it leaked into our downstairs!! They had to come in and redo the drywall on our downstairs ceiling and the paint they used to color match does NOT match! We're left with an obvious fix in our ceiling! Other issues I had with the company was they never allowed us to look at samples of tile to choose from before install. We gave them a general idea and they chose from there. We also were never given an option to choose the tub, and after <1year of use the tub already has scratches along the ledge (likely again cheap fiberglass which we would have refused). We never filed a better business bureau complaint because we understand as novice homeowners we should have asked more questions during the install, however I am VERY disappointed that they seemed to also take advantage of us as novice home homeowners. They also WAY overcharged us! For a fiberglass tub replacement and tiling the walls (no shower door, nothing fancy) they charged >$8000. We have since had another fiberglass tub and surround replaced with a walk in shower, all tile, custom niche, and glass door which looks WAY more professional and was installed with a licensed plumber and vetted tile professional for only $10,000. I would NEVER recommend this company to ANYONE for a tiled shower project unless you VERIFY they are using licensed experts for the job and not just their own handy men who are only licensed for general renovation work and not specific training that is needed for a shower!!!

Our remodeling project was complex and challenging since it included most of the rooms of our home. We enlarged our kitchen into the existing 3 season room, added a butler's pantry, a food pantry, a 12 foot island, and a cathedral ceiling with beaded board and hand-stained wood beams. The entranceway was enlarged by eliminating a coat closet and an upstairs studio closet. We added an additional window and wood beams in the living room. In addition, we redesigned the master bathroom suite and remodeled the guest bathroom and the laundry room. We continued to live in the home while the work was being completed. Because of this, it was extremely important that our contractors not only did great work, but would be respectful of our privacy and accommodate our schedules.
In our first meeting with Steve, it was apparent that he had done his homework. He had met with the architect, Teen Vebares (Core Design Group), estimated the project, and developed a timeline for its completion. We immediately felt comfortable with him and the plan he had for our project.
Our confidence only grew when we met Adam and Micah, his two sons and partners in the business. Both of them are extremely pleasant and respectful as well as exceptional craftsmen. Their attention to detail and desire to exceed our expectations was evident throughout the project.
Like all projects of this complexity there were some unexpected challenges. In every case, Steve and his sons addressed them head on and recommended a solution. Some of those challenges were our desire to add and change some of the plans. They were very fair with all the change orders and we always knew the cost of those changes in advance.
All of their subcontractors were very professional and like them very focused on the details of the project and committed to getting it right the first time. We received daily updates during the project so that we always knew who was going to be at our home, the work they were going to do, and when they would arrive.
Kohr and Sons did a beautiful job and we love our new spaces! We will hire them again and strongly recommend them to anyone wanting a professionally completed renovation. They are great people to work with!
