We have been in our $270,000 house + land cost for a year and a half. It's comfortable, attractive and structurally sound (as far we can tell at this point). Be aware that Mr DeBerry will cut quality in areas to meet your budget and leave you with the responsibility of haggling it out with the contractors. I have 2 large windows have been tested by the recent artic chill that came through Texas and they may as well have been installed 50 years ago. The shades covering the windows were visibly moved away from the windows because of the lack of seal or workmanship of the windows. I'm trying to call the window company to see my options. I have a beautiful front door that the molding has dropped Inside and out on the door leaving a thin bare edge around it that Mr. DeBerry was supposed to have the painters cover 6 months ago; still haven't seen any painters. My internet connections was finished in the attic (poor idea to have a router in Texas summer heat.) I requested the installer return to bring it into the house where I had told the builder I wanted it in the first place. The best he could do because of the lack of cable length was bring the cables through the ceiling and set the router on the shelf of the laundry room cabinets. It's a 9' ceiling, so every time I have to reset or check the router (more times that I should have had to over the last year and a half) I have to climb on my step ladder out to access the router. We are still trying to get the wood floor installer to come finish the final stain and seal on some boards that split after moving in. ....and if you want it in your house, make sure every detail is on your floor plans and you read the contract carefully. We had wood floor throughout the living area and bedrooms with carpet in the closets only and tile in the wet areas (laundry and bathrooms). We discovered about a week before completion that the guest bedroom was carpeted. I didn't see the change he made on the contract agreement (my fault) and realized that was another area he cut to meet his profit and our budget. Read everything carefully and make sure both parties understand your requirements and expectations. And check on the building progress daily if you can. It could save you a great deal of frustration. This was our second custom build and the first was so much easier I never expected the irritations I've had with this one.
