We are RVers and planned a stop in Sun Lakes, AZ to visit family. They hired an electrician, Jon Lahr of J. Lahr Electric to install a 30A RV plug so we could plug in at their house. The plug says 125v 30A right on it, but he wired it up as a 240 volt...like a dryer plug.
Later that day I plugged in my RV and began to fry $10,000+ worth of electronics and appliances. When I saw the volt meter on the RV I ran outside and unplugged the shore power. Jon returned and I explained to him that is was 120v. He looked at the box for the outlet in front of me and confirmed it was 120v. He proceeded to wire it correctly and it began working fine. However, the surge damaged our dual-fuel RV fridge. Jon ended up paying for the repair, but he also said he would refund the $85 installation cost. He later backed out on that.
He spent some time trying to test circuits in the RV, but they didn't show any voltage. I stuck my $3 tester in an outlet and it showed it was fine. He later said he had his tester set on "hold". I started to wonder if the guy was high or something...an electrician who can't work his own voltage tester?
He later told me to not question him because he had been an electrician for 20 years...but he make a major rookie mistake. When I discussed his responsibility in the matter, he said the whole thing wasn't his fault and that any other electrician would tell me to screw myself.
If you want to hire someone who will not do things correctly and blame you for his mistakes, Jon Lahr seems like the guy for you. Personally I'd worry about the guy burning down my house. Buyer beware!!!

We have used JLahr on many of our projects. He always gives good suggestions and is very helpful. He has worked on some of our HOA communities coming in under other bids and supplying quality products. We are finishing up a project with him right now where he added fans and pocket lights, moved outlets for new appliances. We are very happy with his work and so is the homeowner.
