These are terrible people to buy from. They do not finish what they start or make anything right when it’s wrong. My house was never completed. I am hiring a contractor to complete the work and taking Lakes to court. I’ve had a couple of there past customers contact me about taking action against them. It’s definitely buyer beware.

In July of 2017, I visited Lakes Housing Center to purchase a mobile home. I dealt with the vice-president. I gave him a $1,000.00 deposit to purchase a single wide mobile home that was sitting on their lot. A few weeks later he stated it would be several months before they could deliver and set it up. (My property is only approx 2 miles away)
I then decided if I had to wait that long, I should order a new double wide. He stated I could probably have it built and delivered around the same time. He stated the factory would deliver it straight to my property.
In August 2017, I again met with the VP and went through all options to place an order for a new home. I had just sold and closed on my home in TN. He stated he needed another $9,000.00 deposit on the home, so I gave him a check. He stated the home was ordered right then. This is a total of $10,000 I gave him.
By Oct, I had not heard from Lakes. I made another visit to his office, he then stated the price of the home would increase due to the increase in the lumber price from the hurricane. I stated that was impossible due to a contract we had signed for the home before the hurricane. I then discovered the home had never been ordered. He also stated it could possibly be another 6 months before he could get my home.
I was then told they had a new home similar to the one I ordered sitting on the lot that had been sold to someone else who had backed out of the deal, and could sell me that one.
I agreed, if they could have it set up on my property by Dec 23rd. He stated that was impossible. Now, this gives them over 2 months to have it set up.
After careful consideration, I left Florida and returned to TN. On Oct 15th, I contacted Lakes Housing and was told they would refund my $10,000.00. I gave him an address to send it to in TN. After a few weeks I had not received my refund, I once again visited the office. I was told the hold up was how much to pay for the septic inspection. Consider, they use the same guy all the time and I already new it was only $300.00.
On Dec 29th, I still had not received my refund and sent an email giving tham one week to refund my money or I was going to hire an attorney.
On Jan 2, 2018, he responded stating the check is in the mail. I still have not received the refund.

- Building permit records show that Lakes Housing Center Inc has worked on 430 permitted projects.
We had a very bad experience with this contractor as well. We are now seeking legal counsel for their charge of items that were not required or already paid for in our closing costs. Additionally, we reported the items that needed to be repaired in November, 2021 and still have not had a response.
