    sheet-rocking

Daniel Nava Garcia’s 5 Start Google review reads “Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value”

Hmmm, not my experience on every count…

I engaged with owner Lorenzo Hernandez on 4/27/2021 and asked for three references. I was given one, Jorge Dunbar, who said that while LHA did a good job “when they finally got around to finishing”, that he would never work with LHA again because it took forever and it was essentially impossible to reach Mr. Hernandez. I thought “well, he does good work, but all good contractors are busy, so I’ll work around the difficulty contacting him.”

What followed was a sheet rocking nightmare. (1) Price: Bait and Switch. Hernandez bid the project at $35/hour/man, but then upped the price to $50/hour/man once he had me between a rock and a hard place. (2) Execution Timing appalling. LHA promised the work, estimated to cost between $9-11K would be completed within three weeks. They came for one day 5/27/2021, did huge damage, and only returned for a single day on 6/27/2021 after I had sent a registered letter insisting that I would sue if the work was not repaired expeditiously. (3) Incompetent workers: LHA sent two young men to do the sheet-rocking; one of whom had only been sheet rocking for two months. They screwed and nailed through two clearly visible armored cables resulting in $418.70 of damage to two electrical circuits. They installed sheetrock so poorly in two rooms that Hernandez agreed that it ALL had to be removed, wasting 24 sheetrock sheets worth $372.96. They disassembled fixtures and lost the parts incurring additional costs. These incompetent bozos cut the sheetrock with saws and Dremel bits instead of sheetrock knives generating unspeakable amounts of dust. Total damages incurred $1,061.47. On 5/29 Hernandez signed a document taking responsibility for the damage on 5/28 stating he has many teams working for him, and that the team that had initially performed the work had only previously worked on new construction. However after promising that another team would come within several days he subsequently stopped responding to text messages or calls for the next four weeks, leaving my house covered with sheetrock dust. (4) Cost Gouging: Upon arrival with a different team to undo the damage Hernandez insisted that they be paid at $50/hour (including the hour Hernandez spent renegotiating his price). No doubt he intended to shift the costs of his first teams errors on to me, his client. Desperate to have the work done I agreed. (5) Impolite: When I presented Hernandez with an accounting of the costs he owed me for the damages and wastage incurred and a modest check for the difference between his second team’s work billed at a rate 43% higher than initially quoted and the damages costs he had incurred, he refused to look at the accounting and refused my check stating “apparently you need the money more than me” . I subsequently sent the check and accounting to him by registered letter, indicating that he could return it or destroy it if he chose not to cash it. Surprise, surprise, he cashed the check.

“Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value”??? You be the judge!
