Lee Zieber(Linda's husband) took a $2,000 deposit from us as a deposit on bathroom work for our home. We had an estimate provided by Lee but no signed contract. Lee called to postpone the work on the scheduled start date, he claims due to another job. When we were seeking Lee's phone number we Googled him to learn that he was actually scheduled to meet with the state of california on a licensing issue on the very day he was supposed to be with us. The combination of not having a signed contract, learning that Lee was not really with another customer as he represented, and that it was not Lee who was licensed made us feel uncomfortable with proceeding. We have a phone conversation in which Lee agreed to return the money by that Friday. It did not arrive. I eventually received a phone call from Linda suggesting that I would need to put my request in writing, and though I questioned this since we didn't have a signed contract, sent this request for return of money. Though I had her assurances the deposit would be returned promptly, it has now been nearly 6 weeks since we cancelled. I phoned and left a message for them the other day that should either send the check to us, or at least call me if they have a different view of what is fair, but have received no communications back. Even if they did not have the money we deserved a call to let us know it would be forthcoming at a later date. I am now pursuing this matter with the state contractors board, will be filing a small claims action, and will otherwise try to warn consumers exercise caution. I trust there might be a way to notify you through this site if they eventually square with us (in order to be fair with them) but either way feel justified in the admonition at this time.
