I had “LIV Construction” do work at my house. They built a house across the street from me and it came out beautiful. I spoke to the home owner and they stated the workmanship and quality was great.
So, I decided to use “LIV Construction”. I contacted Nick (the owner) and informed him that I wanted to do over my homes three bathrooms and that I would buy the supplies while he provided the labor. I showed Nick what I wanted done and that he took notes and got back to me with a price quote for the job. I agreed, Nick drew up a contract and I signed it. Nick started work several months later due to the time it took me to order my materials and scheduling conflicts that we both encountered.
While doing work at my home NICK called me and told that his guys had to take additional time to install glass mosaic tile in my bathroom and would like to have extra compensation due to the added time cost. I told Nick that first that we had a contract and second I told him that I was putting mosaic tile in my bathroom from the beginning and it’s not my fault that he underbid the job. So, in the sense of fair play and the beautiful work that was being performed, I told Nick that I trust him and let me know what the additional cost would be. Nick never readdressed our additional cost conversation or came back to me with additional fee amounts.
Another job came up for Nick and since I wasn’t in a rush, his guys left without placing a mirror in another bathroom that they had did work in (it was in my contract to provide this service). A light that they had installed had a defect and didn’t work, I had to reorder it but came after they completed the job. After installation of my vanities I noticed I needed toe kicks.
Nick came over and I paid him in full for the services rendered and the remaining payment per the contract. During conversation, I advised him of the above issues and he told me to contact him when the parts came in.
After the new light and toe kicks came in, I called Nick to set up an appointment for one of his guys to come back and complete the job. Nick informed me that a job came up and he would call me at the beginning of next week.
The following week when Nick called, he informed me that he needed and additional amount of $500.00 to complete the job. I told Nick that he didn’t install the mirror as required per the contract and he replied my guy said you didn’t want it installed until after the painting was done. I told Nick that was not true. I told Nick that I wouldn’t want his guy drilling in my completed bathroom and that was an untrue statement.
I told Nick, “You’re going to charge me $500.00 to install a mirror that should have been installed before, two toe kicks and reinstall a broken light fixture that was beyond my control”? I told him I’d give him $250.00. Nick excepted my counter offer.
His guy came in two days and it took him approximately 1.5 hrs. to complete the job. The mirror taking the most time.
In retrospect, I just didn’t want to get another trade guy involved in this project. They probably would have probably charged $100.00 to complete this job. I just didn’t want to make the phone calls. Nick bent me over a barrel and extorted the money he felt short changed for the prior work.
It’s not my fault that Nick underbid the job. How things turned out I’m glad I didn’t have other issues that could have led to a civil court battle.
I would not recommend Nick or his company “LIV Construction” to do work at your home. This is not to say other people did have or did not have good experiences with LIV Construction and Nick but unfortunately, I did.
