By AlonzoApril 25, 2020to install cabinets and paint
I'm disappointed... I had nothing but faith until Ric from Lua Construction was going to charge me, $1,200 to paint baseboards in my house which was already done by the contractor I originally hired, Flooring Innovations. Flooring Innovations intervened I didn't get charged twice.. but then Ric, after painting and installing my cabinets left debris in the house.. left over materials on the counter... garbage everywhere. This might sound minor.. but I'm not in town and he took deceiving pics not showing the refuse, he said he removed. It's the lack of honesty that hurts... I can't trust him. I was adamant regarding his pay.. but he didn't have the respect or professionalism to do well by me. Ric even lied about putting the switch plates back... That's ridiculous...

Permits
- Building permit records show that Lua Construction has worked on 34 permitted projects.
I am writing this review to share our experience with our home remodel done by LUA, as I wish I had this information prior to contracting with them.
Pros
- Their team shows up on time and strives to stick to timelines
- Individual team members are polite and professional - can’t say the same about the company’s leadership however
- Solid subs they work with - great quality tile and stone work and wood/countertops
Cons
- Communication during the project was poor - for some reason after demo was concluded we would continually ask for updates, and a calendar to coordinate with other people doing work on the house and LUA refused to provide, and would flat out ignore emails and texts when we needed information.
- The owner personally came over to our house and confronted my husband when we complained about work that was scheduled to be done one day and no one showed up. He was extremely unprofessional and my husband had to ask him to leave our house
- The construction site was left a mess daily in the last 3 weeks of the project, to the point we as homeowners came over to sweep and clean up. Lua’s own subs even commented on how messy everything was. We installed expensive wood flooring which Lua didn’t cover with anything protective and when they left their mess - razors, screws, nails, putty pieces, they were walked on and scratched the brand new flooring in multiple places (20+ scratches and nicks)
- The plumbing was done poorly - they used an oil based putty to seal the fixtures on our marble countertops which left stains and then diagnosed the issue as water stains. We had to hire a separate plumber to give the correct diagnosis so we could tell Lua how to treat them, so we didn’t have a working bathroom for 3 weeks after we moved back in.
- They also installed the wrong shower valve (ordered by us, as we didn’t know) and didn’t mention it was incorrect so we had to pay someone else to open our wall to replace it so we could have a working shower. They also installed a cracked toilet which leaked. I do not blame them for the fact that an incorrect fixture was ordered or that the toilet was cracked, but a quality plumber would have recognized these things ahead of installation.
- 2 months after moving in we noticed water coming out the sides of our kitchen island and heard water leaking inside so we had to open up the island and there was a pipe springing water. Lua sent someone out, then had the audacity to text us when he was getting the part to fix it that we had to pay them $150 to repair?! Not only was the pipe leaking, we had mold growing everywhere inside and it damaged the wood paneling of the island. They stated it was a pipe they didn’t install, but we certainly had no issues with leaking prior to Lua doing the work on our house and from the mold growth it is clear the leak started as soon as the remodel was completed.
All in, working with Lua caused a lot of stress and cost us a lot of money - the project itself was expensive but the the things we had to pay for to fix Lua’s errors even more so. Sharing this in full transparency in case anyone else is looking to work with them.
