  M And J Paving And Sealcoating Hackensack NJ are Criminal

  On Oct 3 2014, I was approached by Mike (son) about paving my driveway. He was driving through the neighborhood, I assumed looking to get some work before winter. I was in the market for a new driveway. He quoted me $2,000 for the complete job with a 5-year guarantee. His crew came a week later and laid down the new driveway. I gave him $2,000 cash. When I asked him for a receipt, he was reluctant to give me one. I wrote one up and demanded he sign it. In December, Mike came by again and sealed the driveway for another $150.

  By February, 2015, I noticed peaks and valleys in my driveway, with about a 9 inch differential. This was obviously a shoddy job. I compared it to my next-door neighbor's driveway, who had her driveway replaced (same job as mine) by a different company a week before mine was replaced. Her driveway was perfect.

  April 2015, showed long vert and horiz cracks in my driveway, the very rough surface was wearing away.Called M&J three times. Finally Mike stopped by unannounced and confirmed that the driveway needed to be redone. He told me that he had purchased substandard materials from their asphalt supplier and had several driveways to replace as a result. I told him that I was sorry, but just because he "cheaped out," his customers should not have to pay the price.

  His solution was to cover the driveway with another coat of asphalt. I did not like that solution and called the company phone number. This time I got Mike, the father. I told him that I wanted the substandard material removed and all new asphalt put down. He agreed, and said he would replace the driveway in three weeks (the beginning of May).

  By July, I had not heard anything from them. I called one of the numbers, and it was disconnected. I called the other number and got voicemail. I left three messages within a week, and still no replay. I notice that the BBB has a D+ rating for this company. I wish I would have checked before contracting them.

  The first week of September 2015, Mike showed up unannounced. He promised me he would return the next week to fix my driveway. It's now October 14 and I haven't seen him. Both numbers for his Englewood and Hackensack Offices are disconnected.

  Engaging Michael Teelan's company, M & J Paving and Sealcoating was the biggest mistake I have ever made. If this site would let me, I would give him zero stars, but alas I am forced to give his company 1 star.
  In the fall of 2013, we contacted M & J Paving regarding replacing our sidewalks, patio and driveway and some repairs to our steps. \In December, the owner said that he wanted to do the demolition and pour the concrete before Christmas. We expressed concern over pouring concrete in cold weather. The owner, Mike Teelan, repeatedly promised that it would be fine - that the concrete mixing company he used did a special mixture. He was adamant, stating that he didn't want to have to do it again, so all would be well, so we reluctantly agreed.The day the concrete was poured a very wet snow fell on it. Still we were assured it would be fine. Before the concrete had time to cure, the temperatures dropped to below freezing for several days. When the snow melted the concrete was uneven, edges were gouged out and the seams were uneven. After that, the snow fell again and stayed there until spring. When the snow was gone, the surface was even more compromised, with gravel clearly visible through the surface.When we called, Mr. Teelan said that he could resurface it to smooth things out. It took him until July to accomplish this. It still wasn't great, but it looked somewhat better. By September/October I could literally rub the "resurfaced" layer off with my finger! My husband and I both called the business. We received no response.Fast forward to the thaw, this spring ('15). The surface is a disaster. Chunks of cement are coming out at the seams. The entire surface is cracked and horribly discoloredI took photos and attached them to a text which I sent to Mr. Teelan's cell phone - no response.I attached the same photos to an email sent to the email address on the business website. This came back as undeliverable/unclaimed. I then sent a copy of the pictures, along with a letter and still have heard NOTHING! A couple of weeks ago, my husband ran into Mr Teelan and discussed the situation. Teelan promised to come take a look that Saturday. Needless to say, that has not happened.

  I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It has been almost 2 weeks. I am sure that Mr. Teelan will not respond.

  This man has no integrity whatsoever! Avoid him at all costs!!!!
