Maddyn Homes

I cannot express my frustration with Maddyn Homes strongly enough. We built a custom home with Maddyn Homes in 2017-2018, and it was intensely painful from start to finish. It is still painful as we try to get warranty items addressed. The plans Maddyn Homes drew up were a mess. By way of example, the plans contained an impossibility in the entrance to the house. The top of the window over the front door from the outside of the home was over 11 feet high, but the window opened into an entryway with only 10 foot ceilings inside. This was one of many issues with the plans. Rather than fixing the plans, Kyle Enzler (the owner) would only agree to red-line the plans. Then when we commented that the red-lining wasn't specific enough in many instances, the foreman told us the red-lining was purposely vague so that the contractors would talk to him about each item and get it right. That is not what happened. Thing after thing was built wrong, and it was a full-time job just babysitting the project. The foreman refused to fix some things even though we have evidence of clear communication promising it would be built differently than it was. The home took twice as long to build as promised in the contract. We know that some delays are inevitable, but communication about the delays was seriously lacking and the house would sit for weeks sometimes with nothing being accomplished. The interior designer who was working for Maddyn Homes when we began building quit a couple of months after we broke ground, and we were left floundering until we hired our own interior designer. The designer who quit told us that she quit because Kyle was horrible at communicating with her and she couldn't work with him anymore. Our biggest frustration with Maddyn Homes was and is their lack of communication. It usually takes a lot of time and energy on our part to even get a response from them, let alone get anything done. Even now, over a year after completion of the home, we are still experiencing issues. We have warranty items that we've notified Maddyn Homes of several months ago, and there has been no concrete communication about when these items will be addressed. Also, I think Maddyn Homes hires the cheapest contractors possible in a lot of cases because we've had to have subcontracters come back multiple times to get items actually fixed. We've had several visits from the HVAC people, and are still having HVAC issues. Both of our neighbors who built with Maddyn Homes have had to have the HVAC people come back multiple times too. We have had an inordinate number of issues with the house compared to other homes we've had built. We have had two water leaks come through our ceiling in the first year since our home was completed (one due to a plumbing error and one due to the wrong kind of cap being put on the dryer vent). The more recent leak was repaired finally after a couple months of our pestering Maddyn Homes, but the paint job over the fix is a mess. Blade from Maddyn homes commented that the paint job was unacceptable when he saw it, but it appears that will be easier for us to texture and paint ourselves than to get Maddyn Homes to come and actually make it right. If Maddyn Homes honored their warranty in any reasonable kind of timeframe, we might feel okay about all the issues, but they aren't generally responsive when we communicate about warranty issues. We’re not sure they are planning on honoring their warranty at all on some items, and were afraid we'll have to sue in order for them to do so. We are not litigious people and have never even considered suing anyone before this experience. We are so tired of having to beg, plead or pester in order to get anything fixed. Our driveway and front walk are a mess because Maddyn Homes poured the concrete in freezing temperatures without keeping it warm enough while it cured. I had tried to get the concrete poured many weeks before, and had expressed concern about their pouring it when they did, but my concerns were ignored. This is the worst experience we have had with any business ever. My comments here have only scratched the surface of what went wrong. Maddyn Homes doesn't seem to care about quality work, integrity, or communication. Kyle exemplifies everything that is wrong with some salespeople: he’s great at making promises before the sale, but it ends there.
