Mainely Home Remodeling

I hired Mike to redo my kitchen, 2/22. Also to install LVF and a tile backsplash. My floors are good but I've been finding a few soft spots where the floor was not leveled, due to prior transitioning. Yet, seems he never addressed it but rather just laid the floooring. He also install backsplash, which looks very nice.

But this doesn't excuse his poor cabint installation. He hung my corner double door cabinet upside down(not the door but the entire cabinet). The drawer under my cooktop was not meant to be operational. Clearly he had no clue that was to be. So in order to accommodate the wiring from my cooktop, he notched out a section of the drawer rear and called it a day. He warned me that he is not a wood finisher which became apparent when he attempted to add the crown molding above my custom cabinets. The ceiling is not level and he had no clue how to make it all even and clean looking. The trim near the corner was like 3 inches and as it progressed to the end of the upper cabints it was about 2 inches and he was ok with that. $10,000 worth of cabinets and horrible crown installation looks like crap. I told him to stop.

Another is of concern he how he used the improper electrical wiring to hook up my new cooktop. It worked one time and then nothing. He assured me he did what needed to be done and to contact the service department for my cooktop. When the service man came to check things out, he asked where my electrical box was and I showed him. He wanted to turn off the circuit. He told me that the wiring was horrific and a potential fire hazard. After hearing this, I then contacted my regular electrician to come out and he was angry at what he found. The incorrect amped wire was run, which didn't put enough wattage to make the cooktop work. I also had a two ganged light switch that Mike rewired and it controlled two separate lights. One in my kitchen, the other in my garage (which wasn't worker after he wired it). When the switch cover was removed, the switch in question was burnt. I was so angry. Fire hazard because of Mike Sabato.
I informed him via email and certified mailed that his services were no longer needed and all the reasons why were provided. But I also had him under contract to replace a slider door from the kitchen to my deck. I told him I no longer want him to complete that job and I was seeking refund of $3800.00 which I gave him to purchase the new slider. I requested that he drop the door off to me or refund my money. This was requested since mid June 2022, he has yet to refund the money. He promised to do so on three occasions and ghosted me each time.

DO NOT HIRE HIM TO DO ANY WOODWORKING, INSTALLATION OF HIGH END CABINETS OR ANY CABINETS FOR THAT MATTER, AT ALL. DO NOT ALLOW HIM TO RUN ELECTRICAL WIRING, UNLESS YOU AREN'T CONCERNED WITH A POTENTIAL FIRE.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM AT ALL.

Also he has a Facebook page where he claims to show completed remodeled kitchens but he never did those kitchens. He is using pictures from other contractors. Isn't that fraud?????? Consumer fraud?????

We hired Mainely Home Remodeling (Michael Sabato) in June, and it was the worst experience I have ever had. When we met Mr. Sabato at our initial meeting we explained we were looking to replace our stair treads and newel posts, along with staining them. I sent Mr. Sabato a full list of materials including images we selected, as he explained he would purchase the items from Home Depot/Lowe's (our choice). We gave him an initial deposit to purchase materials, where he also agreed he would provide us with stain samples to choose from, and once we approved, he would then perform all the staining offsite in his workshop, so once he arrived at our residence it would make the job much quicker, and we would have use of our staircase sooner. I also asked Mr. Sabato, as well as had him write it in his contract, he must provide us with proof in insurance and a copy of his contractors license. He agreed and we agreed he would start work on 6/13/22, a few days before the start date I attempted to contact Mr. Sabato, because I did not hear from him and we still didn't have the samples, but he would not answer his phone, and his voicemail box was full. After several attempts via text message, he assured me there was nothing to worry about, he was just busy, and would like to start on 6/14 instead, I explained to him, that was fine, but I was taking time off work to be there during the process. He did not show up on 6/14 up, so I called him and he did answer and said he would be by about 3pm to show me a stain sample, I also reminded him he still hadn't provided insurance or license documents, which he said he had, and was brining with him. When he pulled up at 5:30, I watched him outside at his work van, quickly put some stain on a stair tread (mind you I already game him the color selection type of step) he came in with pine step with the complete wrong color, and no paperwork. I explained the steps were supposed to be oak (not pine) and it was the color was wrong. He said he would be back tomorrow with the correct material, and paperwork. As he arrived the next day (again 2 hours late) he did have the oak step, but not stained, and still could not provide his paperwork. It was at this point we then told him we did not feel comfortable hiring him, and said, if you have any materials already purchased, we would keep them, and he could deduct them from the deposit and return the balance of our money. We never He said "no if you are not comfortable, I will return the materials, and refund 100% of your money". The next day I received at text from him stating he needed to wait until his account was credited, and he would be in touch in a day or two to refund the money. I never heard from him again. I've made several attempts to contact him, and he has not responded in anyway. NONE of our money was returned. I would not recommend Mr. Sabato D.B.A. Mainely Home Remodeling.

I’ve had bad experiences with contractors over the years and this is by far the worse experience I have ever had with a contractor. My wife and I bought a new home this time last year.  The home needed some work done including the basement. With limited funds for repair, we had to withdraw from my retirement plan to get the basement finished. We hired Michael Sabato, Mainely Home Remodeling and he began the work in February 2022. In the beginning, he along with his workers would show up regularly to do the work. We stuck with the scheduled payments based off of the contract we signed which had 4 total payments. The contract stated that it would be completed by March 18, 2022. After the 3rd payment, which in total ended up being the majority of the balance, the contractor would rarely show up. The work that was completed at this time was nowhere near finished. Michael Sabato would send 1 of his workers who would maybe do light work for 2 hours and then leave. Eventually no one would show up. The contractor would not answer calls or text messages. Days would go by without any communication from the contractor. The deadline in the contract would pass. After several text messages including pictures of the status of the basement, Michael Sabato would simply respond that he would be there the next morning. He would send someone but he would never show up. Michael Sabato would then give us alternative dates in April to complete the work. The month passed and there was no progress. We were now in the month of May and he completely stopped showing up. Michael Sabato would not answer his phone or respond to text. I decided to once again send pictures of what my basement looked like. He finally responded saying he would be there during the week and make everything good. I reached out to a few contractors to check his work and they all said the work that he did complete was not good. We decided we no longer wanted him to finish the work and requested he reimburse us our money minus the work he did complete. I would not recommend Michael Sabato Mainely Home Remodeling to my worst enemy.
