Don't walk, run away from MAP Build & Remodel. Everything they do is horrible quality.
We accepted a bid from MAP Builders in August of 2014. Mike Paulson promised a 6 week turn around. The work was sub-par in every respect and we had to declare legal action to force him to comply with his contract. Here are examples:
1. Demo: During demolition, they cut several electrical wires and never fixed them. They left the house each day without cleaning up their messes. They left boards all over the floors with nails sticking up.
2. Framing: This was the worst part of the job. The contract required recessed beams but Mike refused to honor the contract. I had to threaten a lawsuit to force him to comply with the contract. He hired illegal workers to do the recessed beams which were far out of code. At one point they had a single 2x4 holding up our second floor. It took them over 4 weeks to install two recessed beams.
3. Drywall: Instead of installing new drywall, they tried to patch around old drywall and fix the mess with mud. It looked terrible and they were forced to do the job no less than 3 times before it was acceptable. The texture work was messy and horribly done. They had to redo the work several times and it still is sub-par.
4. Paint: Interior paint job created drops all over the flooring and they never cleaned the mess. They cleaned their brushes in our new $1000 sinks and didn't clean the mess.
5. Siding: The workers did a very sloppy job of framing the windows. Gaps were everywhere and the seams were not calked properly leaving a messy looking job.The worst part of the work was fighting Mike to redo poorly done work. We forced him to hire a different contractor to fix the mistakes. His subcontractor didn't pay his people which caused significant problems. He fought us through every single step of the process and we had to do quality control every day.
His price was the lowest but we would've paid double the amount to have competent workers who spoke English and knew their jobs. Mike hires the cheapest workers he can find and pays them dirt. Wouldn't it be easier to hire decent workers instead of paying someone 3 times the number of hours to fix their mistakes?
Finally, Mike's crew put a hole in our new A/C line which had to be repaired. He did replace the line but made us fix the holes in our sheet rock from the repairs. We asked him for payment but he never replied.

Liz and Greg Finney
Highland Village, TX
Project: New 2400 SF New Home Construction.
This is a letter of recommendation to Michael Paulson.
Building a house from scratch is a daunting task; we hired Michael
as our Project Manager, seeing the project from start to finish.
With a project of this magnitude, we did have a few hick ups and
design changes throughout the build; however Michael came up with
creative ideas and solutions to the task at hand. He has a great
ability to take control of any situation dealing with planning,
budgeting, contracts, lien releases, sub-contractors, city planning,
and all the construction headaches you could imagine. His attention to
detail and smart ideas saved us a lot of money and time.
We are very happy with Michael's work, professionalism, and dedication
to our new home. The house turned out better than expected!
If you require any more info, or would like a tour of the house, please
do not hesitate to call.
Thanks
Greg Finney
