If I could give zero stars, I would. Marathon Capital & Construction, led by Trevor Sie-Duke and represented by Nichole Obey, has proven to be one of the most dishonest, fraudulent, and predatory contractors operating in Maryland.
Our company hired Marathon to complete full renovations at two Baltimore properties under signed MHIC contracts that were supposed to take 3–4 months. More than two years later, both properties remain unfinished and abandoned. Despite repeated promises, false assurances, and fabricated excuses, the contractor collected substantial payments and disappeared — leaving behind unsafe and unsecured worksites.
When questioned about progress, they repeatedly cited “personal emergencies” or “medical events” as reasons for failure to deliver, while continuing to make up new stories about scheduling and staffing. Permits were later found to be expired, unpaid, or never approved, yet work was performed as if everything was legitimate. This is a blatant violation of state and city building regulations.
We paid for both materials and labor, but Marathon left the properties vacant and open to theft. Entire HVAC systems, toilets, flooring, and electrical components — all contractor-supplied items — were allegedly “stolen,” yet there’s no evidence they were ever purchased in the first place. Even worse, the company attempted to blame us, the client, for the loss of items they were contractually obligated to provide and secure.
We’ve included photos of the backyard and surrounding areas, showing exactly how Marathon left the property — exposed, dangerous, and abandoned for months at a time. These are not isolated incidents; several subcontractors and vendors have privately shared that they, too, were ripped off, unpaid, and forced to perform unlicensed or uncompensated work by the same company.
Other homeowners across Baltimore have echoed our experience in BBB complaints and social media posts describing the same pattern of deceit and abandonment. Marathon Capital & Construction appears to operate as part of a systemic scam that exploits both clients and laborers under the guise of a licensed contracting business.
We have filed formal complaints with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC), and civil and criminal actions are being prepared. The evidence of misrepresentation, financial fraud, and breach of contract is overwhelming.
To anyone reading this: Do not hire Marathon Capital & Construction under any circumstances. Whether you’re a homeowner, real-estate investor, or subcontractor, you will likely end up financially and emotionally drained. This company is not a construction firm — it’s a fraudulent enterprise that preys on trust and hides behind empty excuses.
Live backyard camera photos of the site tell the truth — what they left behind is uninhabitable, unfinished, and unsafe.
