Be wary of hiring this guy. He’s a slick salesman, but his work is sloppy, he has no finishing skills, and he does not take responsibility for his work. He only asks for money. Often. He’s always broke & needs cash to pay his crew. I paid him $8000 in cash that I never recede a receipt for. I consider that money stolen as it was in excess of his receipts. He is arrogant and thinks of himself as a seasoned expert. Instead, he turned out inexperienced in the building trades and in running a business.
I have piles of garbage he put in my yard: old insulation, lumber scraps, metal from 2 garage door rails he removed. He refuses to pick them up. Instead, he texted me this:
There is no problems remember I am doing labor only if the materials the you bring are not good quality is not my responsibility including garbage please read the contract and show me where I am responsible for garbage.
FYI, he does not have a contract. Only estimated with no legal language.
He failed to get permits from the town for plumbing and electrical work so I had to do it for him. He then failed electrical 3 times, plumbing twice. He built a staircase for me in a garage conversion. He just failed building inspection for the 5th time. He built it out of construction 2x4"s. It look rough and amateurish. The vinyl floor tiles and molding keep falling off.
His crew is good at the big picture, but the details they don’t understand. They installed new electrical sockets throughout my house, then their painter came in and painted over them. I installed all new hardwood floors. 2 days after they were in, his guys scratched the floor and the stairs. He installed a new vinyl floor for me in the garage conversion, then spilled paint & spackle all over it and refused to clean it up. He installed 2 wall ovens. They were uneven. Had to redo & he permanently damaged the wall oven cabinet during the install.
There are many good contractors in New Jersey. Do not hire Marin unless you want to pay too have his mistakes repaired later.
