Mark was referred to me by someone who had retired. I asked his rate & he said $60/hour. When he arrived at my home, I showed him the two areas of concern - adding two outlets in the basement & fix outlets that didn't work in the kitchen. Forty five minutes later he said he was finished & asked for $175. I was surprised, but didn't feel that I could question his amount, so I paid him. Two hours later, the kitchen issues returned & now affected outlets in other areas also. I called him & he said he'd make it right. A week later, he returned & said he'd found the issue which he should have caught the first visit. He asked for another $40. I stood up to him & said he'd quoted me $60/hr. & had charged me $175 for 45 minutes. He said that the price of wire has gone way up, though I could only see that he'd used a little over a foot of wire and three plugs - for $135?But got huffy & left. Two days later, I noticed water in the garage & figured out that the outlet my freezer was plugged into wasn't working. I'd never hire him again.
