DO NOT USE MASTER POOLS of AUSTIN
They threatened me with legal action if I DID NOT remove my YELP review...1. I was told that the Shotcrete used in the pool was Fiberglass Reinforced by my salesman John. This was one of the main reasons that I picked Master Pools to build my pool. They were not the most affordable bid that I got. I verified this with John on 12/31/2015 and afterwards Dennis, the owner of Master Pools of Austin, affiliated with Atlantis Pools in Abilene, TX (Mother Company) called me and I verified with him as well that Fiberglass reinforced concrete is supposed to be used. The "Shotcrete" work was done on 12/30/2016. I have samples of what they used from when they cleaned out the hoses and it did not contain Fiberglass strands. I called the concrete company and found out that Master Pools never orders Fiberglass Reinforced Shotcrete in this area, to my surprise.
Steve at Master Pools of Austin wanted to upgrade the plaster to Pebble Sheen which is worth about $1200.00 to compensate for this error. All I wanted is what I was promised, the correct shotcrete.
2. Master Pools of Austin has not furnished me with a 3-D rendering of my pool as promised by John. This was promised 9/14/2015. I never received the drawing.
3. The floor contour change that was made in the field about 12/02/2015, where I would have the 3'6" deep water extended 4' and the 7' deep end would be a bowl instead of a contour was not followed. Now no one at Master Pools of Austin remembers this change being done.(except for the former employees familiar with the job) My signed document, that I was not furnished a copy of, seems to be missing from the file at Master Pools of Austin.
(NOTE: This change was done during the excavation period at the first part of December 2015. I have spoken with Lee [1/17/2016], the excavator operator and he told me that he remembers that day and he did the excavation per the changed plan. He also told me that he no longer works with Master Pools of Austin.
4. No one at Master Pools of Austin informed me that the assigned Foreman/Supervisor (Shane) no longer works for Master Pools of Austin and there would be a new Foreman. This would explain why there was no Foreman on site during the entire Shotcrete step (12/30/2015) as promised. Had I known there was not going to be a Foreman on site I would have stopped Shotcrete pour for that day and rescheduled this phase.
5. The skimmer is improperly placed, too low and concreted in (during the Shotcrete phase 12/30/2015). Now my "NEW" pool structure will have to be compromised or some kind of patchwork repair to the skimmer area because of lack of supervision by Master Pools of Austin. The only offer from Master Pools of Austin as a compromise is "Upgraded Plaster"
The owner, Dennis, told me that the skimmer will work just fine, just don't fill the pool all the way up and that will also address your floor contour problem...REALLY wonderful fix for Master Pools screw-up????
2nd CHANCE:
A re-review of Master Pools of Austin reveals that not much has changed from the first review.
Dennis, the principal of the company did offer an upgrade in the plaster for the "Shotcrete" confusion.
They did bust out the misplaced skimmer and re-Shotcrete in a new one in the correct position. Now I can fill up the pool correctly.
I never have received my 3-D drawing of my pool as promised.
The floor issue was considered and "WAS" going to be addressed during the plaster phase. There was a new supervisor assigned to the project and he has kept in touch very well, been at the job site a lot of days.
The flat work/decking phase turned into a DISASTER. for 290 sq. ft. of patio it took 10 days of doing and tearing up and redoing 3 different times and it still looks like elementary school children did the work. I was even asked by the paver contractor if I could go and rent a soil compactor because the he did not have a driver's license and credit card and he could not rent one. I didn't want any more delays so I went and got one for 2 days. Boy was I a sucker. I paid $9889.60 for 290 sq. ft. for entry level paving stones and the craftsmanship is way south of that kind of money? (Wow, I just got another bid to have 400 sq ft of expensive paving stones done for $5900.00. What a difference!!) After the 3rd try was done I asked that it all be removed because it looked so bad and I would just get someone else to do the flat work. I told them to take it off of the project cost and remove the material and Master Pools refused to do so. At this point they have been asked to leave my property. So I tried to give them a chance to complete the project as promised under the terms of the contract but it has not happened.
I hired another pool builder to finish the job and it costs me $10,000 more than the original bid.Use Master Pools of Austin at your own risk.

By AnonymousMay 17, 2015Pool remodeling$6,00015 daysHonored the warranty on a poor workmanship
I purchased a dyed plaster from Master Pools in October 2013 which started to show gray marks after a few weeks. After a few months those marks were declared from an expertise to be [burn marks (trowel marks) on a newly re-plastered pool. Gray marks from "calcium chloride dehydration”]. Marks appeared after few weeks and have been left untreated after repeated requests and warnings to the builder. My pool has been maintained all along by a professional pool maintenance person who works for me for 10 years, have extensive expertise in new plaster startup. Regardless of the reason for the issue Master Pools has committed to re-plaster my pool in the fall 2015 and I am glad the are honoring their warranty.. Thank you Master Pools

This has by far been the worst experience I have ever had with trying to get pricing from a company. I understand that all Austin pool companies are busy and some are not taking new customers.
There has not been one time has a timeline presented by Master Pools has been met and I am spending my time chasing Mark to try to get information with little to no response. I am formally requesting my downpayment back since this is a complete failure on Master Pools part to honor their end of the transaction.
We started this in July of 2021 with our initial meeting with Mark and making a down payment. I have had to send constant emails to follow up to be able to receive any information related to the Pool Design or Pricing. We got a really high level price In late October which was 50% over the target budget and was missing multiple items we requested to be included like a HeatPump/Chiller and replacing the railing on our existing patio. Regarding the railing Mark said that he would include replacing the railing on our existing patio with a metal railing during our design discussions only to find out that it was not included and that Master Pools can't accommodate the request to replace the railing. I have been asking for detailed pricing since October (over 4 months) with no response from Mark.
There is no way I will continue the process to build a pool with Master Pools or recommend Master Pools to anyone based on my experience.
