My husband and I signed a contract with Max Contractor Inc to put in two dormers on our roof, add an addition to the back of our house which would be our new kitchen, and make our current kitchen into a dining room. Everything was supposed to be done in 4 weeks. We were told that Mr Sousa da Costa applied for the permits and we assumed he got them. It’s wasn’t until the addition was being put up (so over a week into the job) that we found out that he didn’t have permits. We wanted to do everything by the book. We have had complaint and issues about the job and we brought them to Mr Sousa da Costa’s attention and he said that we are unappreciative and we didn’t pay top dollar. Since we are paying $52,000 I think we have a right to make things the way we want them and up to code. There are times that he won’t respond to texts and will ignore us. There are questions that he will not answer at all. We have to keep texting him and he has told us that we are too much and to let him do his job. We have to be at our house the entire time the are working because we have caught multiple mistakes. An inspector has never shown up and we are worried about the structural integrity of the house at this point. It was raining and our addition is full of water dripping in. It is a nightmare. We can’t even live in our house at this point because there’s no kitchen. We have two small children and they left nails everywhere, electrical boxes open everywhere. We can’t live in a place that is unsafe for our children.
We were told the week on May 15 that we need to make the 3rd of 4 payments ASAP because he can’t order the kitchen cabinets, counters, backsplash, and flooring without it.
Murillo is a fraud and liar. Don’t ever trust him. -

This was one of the worse experience I ever had with a contractor to date. Our contract stated our start date would be on the 30th of April which didn't happen. Due to the times we are in we understood that things happen and we were given a date of the 5th of May. During this time we were not informed regarding the hold up and we kept reaching out via phone but was always sent a text message with a shady story instead of given an actual call. We played email and text message tag with this contractor for a while and to constantly reach out via text, to me is unprofessional. We were told HOME DEPOT messed up their order. I believe the order wasn't placed in time to receive the materials. We chose to go with a small business because during COVID we wanted to support smaller businesses. The contractor reached out VIA EMAIL offering a new start date of the 11th Of May. The project was to be completed on or before the 14th. How can you possibly insulate a 2 car garage in 4 days? This contractor was extremely unprofessional as well as not being attentive to our needs and should gain some customer service skills. Just keep your customers in line with the changes that they are spending their hard money on goes a long way. Now all my projects are backed up because of this inconsiderate contractor.

Not only was Murillo Costa aka Murillo Da Costa aka Murillo Sousa a duplicitous liar and fraud but he was also a complete waste of time and money. his non-English speaking crew ripped out working electric & plumbing while performing shoddy framing and he urged me to complete other items that he wasn't even ready for, then he abandoned the job. When I went to contact him, I found that all of his contact information is fraudulent. He has only a phone number & an email address.
My thought is that his business model is to renovate houses to flip, and every chance he gets, take on contracts that he never intends to finish, just takes large deposits then issues excuses until your are exhausted.
