On 12/31/2019 I entered into a contract with McDevitt Construction to Fully demo my house located on N. 40th Street Philadelphia, PA. 19104.
A few additional weeks went by McDevitt said there was delays at L&I and that's why he never began to demo the house. Cleaning out the contents of the house also slowed down, there was always a reason why.
On numerous occasions I told McDevitt I was uncomfortable. He didn't seem to have clear answers. February 11, 2019 I went to L&I and spoke with two representatives that stated No Demo permit application for my property and nothing had been filled aside from my Architects building permit. I was informed that only 2 over the counter permits had been obtained to remove interior contents. I reached out to McDevitt to find out what was going on, he was unavailable to talk, he had a death in the family followed by another death a few days later. McDevitt became impossible to reach. *Documentation from the City of Philadelphia attached and correspondence with McDevitt. After a few weeks I received an email from McDevitt, stating he needed to exit the contract and he wanted to give me back my full amount of $21,250 over 22 months beginning later this year. I informed him this was unacceptable. *Emails and exit contract attached.
McDevitt has really left me and the property in a bad position. He left debris outside the property for me take care of and the property poorly secured. PLEASE DON'T USE THIS CLOWN!! I don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. -

John Mcdevitt filed a permit for work that was not discussed. The job was shut down by L&I. My permit is listed John took over 16000.00 and after damaging my home, never returned. John had six months to complete a job that should have taken one month. He refuses to return my email, text, and phone calls. He is charging me 650.00 per hour for labor and materials never delivered or used. He took my hard earned money and ran. I would highly recommend that people run from him.
Response from McDevitt February 11, 2020Ms. Mast was given the option to file for a full permit or file for a over the counter permit. I said, if L&I comes out and stops the project. We will need a set of plans drawn by an Architect and submit to City of Philadelphia for approval. I paid out of my own pocket to an Architect. And, said I would submit the plans. Ms. Mast said no. She began to harass me and my 80 yr old father (at the time). We had a contract with payment terms in place. I did everything the contract stated. I even offered to finish the framing and roofing free of charge. Ms. Mast said no.
