Not Rudy Sr, but his son was going to take the job for my roof. Incredibly unprofessional, cancelled on me last minute twice and tried to blame me.
Response from McGraw & Sons Roofing August 31, 2022Some customers Do not understand what it takes to meet our clients needs. But we strive very hard to provide quality professionalism and honesty to them. We are sorry we could not meet your schedule but we will work hard in the future to make sure this does not happen again. Thank you -
By David B.February 24, 2021Verified HireMajor Remodel Roofing Project
McGraw & Sons did the conventional framing work (ceiling joists and rafters) for the second story roof of my major remodel (wall top plates up). Following that, they completed the roofing for the whole home with GAF Reflector Series asphalt shingles and all the accompanying flashing details and gutters. They did great work, communicated well, and always worked hard to make sure I was satisfied throughout the process. Highly recommend.

It was great working for Mcgraw n Sons. I was looking for a roofer to replace my roof. Provided great customer service. Explained all the different options n the pricing clearly. Throughly inspected the roof to determine how much I will be expecting to spend. Provided timely responses, updates to questions, and status of construction. Gave a great deal on my roof replacement. Very flexible with customer needs. I would use Mcgraw and Sons if I had another project. I highly recommend Mcgraw and Sons for any roofing needs.

By JeffJuly 16, 2019Verified HireInstall Standing Seam metal roofing
Rudy and his (now former) employee Alonzo installed a standing seam metal roof on our property. The 3 stars are because the job was completed and the price was right. Unfortunately, there were many bumps (and fights) along the way. Some of that was because my vendors provided incomplete materials. Most of it was because Alonzo took far longer than originally expected, he drank beer while working on my second story roof, we had skylight covers that were not re-installed properly (one blew off in the wind and another no longer fits properly because some of the roofing was installed preventing it from seating right), months after the job, rope and a spool that was left on the roof blew down into our yard, screws and sharp pieces of metal littered the yard and surrounds of the house. Rudy's a nice guy, but the experience was quite unenjoyable.

Rudy seemed really busy and the job didn't seem very important. I know they're all real busy but sometimes you have to be a little patient with the customer to make them feel like their job matters. I'm sure the job being "just gutters" was part of the problem. It's almost not enough work to bid these days. I appreciated his follow-up though.

Rudy has been doing this for over 30 years and I can see that as he was keen to present all the possible options from repair to replacement along with pros and cons of each option. He wanted to ensure I was comfortable with the option and ensured work was completed to my satisfaction and on time.

Wind blew shingles off our roof. McGraw & Sons made an appointment with me for an estimate. They were on time, very polite and interested in our project. They inspected the roof and took pictures of what needed to be done. Showed us the pictures and gave an estimate. My husband said he wanted them to do the job. Mr McGraw did the work the same day, and offered several suggestions of other jobs that they could do for us.

Rudy was great! He came out inspected my in-laws roof and gave us a few options. He indicated that we could replace the whole roof or because most of the roof was still in good order he could repair all of the areas that needed attention. Pretty much every other roofer I spoke to would only consider the job if it was th whole roof. Plus Rudy’s rates were very reasonable. Took me a while to write this review, but felt compelled to do so.
Definitely consider Rudy and his team, they will tell you the truth about your roof and walk you through all of the options.

McGraw roofing in general was excellent - on time work, cleaned up site well and got all the inspections done as promised. Their rate was cheaper than most others we looked at. Overall surely an A+++ roofer. Ask for Rudy... hea a really nice and workable person.

Had a small leak in a rental in San Francisco. We set up an appointment and he came right on time, quoted me a price and then stated he could do the repair that day with a 1 year guarantee.
He is based in San Jose but works all around the SF Bay Area so driving to SF was not an issue.
The job was only a leak but he showed up and did the repair at a very fair price.
I would use them again. -

Great job. Roofed entire house. Very clear and clean in explanations. No questions went unanswered. Rudy is a hard worker as his talented sons. Really nice to hire a great team. Simple roof replacement turned in to a major dry rot repair. Rudy explained every job and expense. I have already recommended him to a friend. (Great sense of humor too!)

My roof started leaking in the middle of a big rainstorm. Rudy gave me an estimated price range over the phone and was at my house within a couple hours. He successfully patched the roof during the storm and provided a 3 month warranty. Super professional and efficient.

Based on his work in replacing my 32-year-old shake roof in 2015
I would strongly recommend Rudy McGraw. The job was done within
the time frame promised, the quality was excellent and the cleanup complete.
His quote was competitive with the other low quotes but what decided
me was Rudy pointing out that I might be faced with extra expenses
if problems were found on removing the old roof and the code inspectors
required repairs. None of the other contractors mentioned this as a
possibility that might increase the overall expense. Problems were indeed
discovered which increased the cost but Rudy had prepared me. Overall
I would use Rudy again. -

McGraws's replaced our roof last year and we are very happy with their work. They had a good selection of composition shingles to choose from and a very good price. They were very pleasant to deal with, did the work timely and as promised and cleaned up nicely afterward. I would definitely use them again.

By StanAugust 23, 2016Roofing
I asked Rudy to come out to give an estimate to take off my existing roof and put a new one one.
We had some issues scheduling a call, but once he arrived on site and checked out my roof everything went quite smoothly. His written bids however lacked detail and it wasn't clear exactly what he was proposing. His firm is based in San Jose and my place is in SF, so the geography is another factor as to why I didn't choose him.

I wanted to get the roof of my Tudor style home replaced since I bought the house in 2012. My home became a rental property in 2014 and since I do not live in the state, I got a number of bids from about 6 different companies. One of the companies took 2-3 months to send me a bid, citing health issues of their estimator who was assigned to my job after I called them back several times. I personally met with estimators from 2 companies. One person wanted $350 if I wanted him to actually get on the roof to examine it for an estimate. The other estimator told me that the job would cost a minimum $20K, the materials would be top of the line but he never actually examined the roof except the ground during his 20-minute visit. The back of my house is 2 stories. Some companies responded to 1-2 weeks and others made an appointment, but the person who I spoke with over the phone never showed up or I never heard back from them. Rudy McGraw took my project seriously from the very beginning. He went onto my roof and gave me his honest estimate of what was needed in about 2 days. He found that part of the roof didn't need to be replaced. None of the other companies mentioned this. Even though I never met him, we corresponded very easily over the phone or by text. He sent me photos of problems that he found during the course of removing the old shingles as well as photos of the project as it progressed. He knew I was on a tight budget, and clearly explained what he needed to do to guarantee the quality of his work and gave me reasonable prices for the additional work. Due to the steep pitch of my roof, this was a tougher job than most roofs, but his price for the job was extremely reasonable compared to estimates from other companies. He spoke with my tenants to keep them informed of their progress - they never complained to me. The only problem I had was he couldn't process a credit card payment. Because I live out of state, it would have been easier for me to pay him remotely without incurring additional costs. At the end, it worked out and based on the photos, the roof looks fantastic, and the gutters are clean and screened finally! I would definitely recommend his company without reservations. I have one less worry about my house this coming winter.

This contractor contacted me and said they were interested in providing an estimate. We set up a day and time for the estimate to happen and I never heard anything back from them during the entire day! He (the contractor) called me the next day and told me he was no longer interested in this project "Get a locate contractor" is what he stated. Be care in using McGraw & Sons!
Response from McGraw & Sons Roofing September 2, 2016Can I have this removed, I don't believe I should be held responsible when I communicated with client I was told not to worry about it! I explained that I had truck problems and the owner said ok no worries he will find another roofer. Not sure why then this bad review? Sad to hear my cusomers are not happy.. -

We approached Rudy after multiple instances of roof leaks in a duplex that we own. Rudy surveyed the roof and recommended a new roof. Due to zoning restrictions, we were required to re-use the tiles. Rudy improvised on the plan and proposed to change the underlayment and add sheathing. He did a lot of legwork for us to get the required permit. Rudy also showed consideration for the tenants in the house. He planned his work meticulously to not have to bring down the tiles and executed the whole project very professionally. Rudy was also very flexible with the payments.

Rudy has come through for me various times. I first used him 15 years ago. For my current remodel I had him lay a flat roof. He also helped with getting a gutter subcontractor. Consequently I installed solar panels and needed him to provide services to button up the roof. So he has done 4 projects for me. I would use him again if I had another project.

McGraw & Sons Roofing bent over backwards to give us the best roof possible for the lowest price. As we entered into the project we realized we wanted higher quality shingles, gutters and gutter covers in places they had never been installed before. As our needs changed McGraw responded accordingly and did their best to give us the exact roof we wanted at the lowest price. McGraw started by giving us one of the 3 lowest of 5 total bids. They also made commitments to us as we negotiated and followed through on those commitments to the end of the job. They went all in on repairing our roof completely and didn't do anything half-assed. They used the correct, highest quality materials and did excellent workmanship. We will look to McGraw for future jobs
