We made a deposit and signed a contract with Metter Construction back in September of 2022. Our fence job was rescheduled due to cold weather at the end of last season, which was fine. They put us on the books as one of their first jobs of Spring, which was fine.
They rescheduled again to start a day earlier than planned in early Feb 2023. Things were very wet and rainy, which causes problems for digging post holes. We were very flexible about it, and asked them to just come back and finish when it dries out - no big deal.
We let them know a couple weeks later when things were dry, and they responded that they didn't want to inconvenience another customer on their books, so they would not be able to come out prior to the next rainfall.
Here is where things inexplicably "went south."
In retrospect, this was a huge red flag but Metter asked us to do a partial payment toward the progress that had been made. Things seemed fine other than the rain delays, so we paid them (approximately 2/3 of total, including the deposit from last September).
About three weeks after we unfortunately made this payment, Metter informed us that they were not coming back. They claimed that they would have to inconvenience too many other customers to work us back on to their busy schedule.
We were astounded - we had never asked them to hurry up, only to complete the job as agreed once the ground dried out. We could not believe their unbusinesslike manner and complete disregard for us as customers.
It seemed like the right thing to do would have been to just work us back in at some point later in the Spring or Summer, but they would not even discuss that with us. They already had our money. They informed us that they had already used too many days on our project.
They are clearly over scheduled and made a deliberate decision to walk off our job to avoid moving other jobs on their books.
Very unfortunate - and this has left us scrambling with no fence and hoping we can find someone else to finish the job in a more professional way.
