If you’re looking for a contractor that will say yes to you in the beginning to get your business then change gears while the work is being done then this is your company, MFM Design and Construction of Bridgewater, NJ. We agreed to have the sheetrock screwed into the wall so that we don’t have nail heads popping out but after all the sheetrock was up and spackled, I noticed the sub-contractor used nails. I confronted MFM about this and they stated we never discussed this, even though we did. Rather than rip out the whole room. We left it. Although they partner with the same sub-contractors for years, if the contractors make a mistake or don’t do as agreed upon in the contract, MFM will quickly say it’s not their fault but rather the contractor. If you like to have your hired company place blame on either you or others rather than accept fault and fix the issues then you are lucky because this company does that as well. We intended on having the 2 36” vanities with the draws in the middle and cabinets on the outside. Never did they ask how we wanted to have the vanities set up. Subject never come up until they installed it and we stated that we wanted to have the draws in the middle. Rather than ask us prior to to doing the plumbing about how we wanted the vanity installed, they stated since most people do it with the vanity draws on the outside, we assumed you wanted it done this way. I stated we didn’t. MFM said we would need to rip out the sheetrock, change the plumbing and then replace sheetrock. At this point, we just wanted the project done because of prior issues so we left it as is. You can have it fixed but it will most likely cost you extra even though it was not your fault. Finally, don’t expect the work to be accountable, guaranteed or the customer service be better than poor. The toilet was not installed correctly due to using the incorrect wax ring. Because the toilet was sitting high off the tile, there was no contact between the ring and toilet, essentially leaving a space in between. No waxy residue was under the toilet proving there was no contact. I noticed this after removing the toilet to fix the leak by using a thicker wax ring with a flange and their original ring. The leak was noticed months after they completed the job due to MFM using green board instead of sheetrock in the downstairs bathroom to cover the hole after passing plumbing inspection. If they had installed the toilet and flushed it a few times, I believe they would have noticed the leak prior to covering the hole below since there was a long slit, next to the wax ring, where water was running down after flushing the toilet. Instead, the hole was covered and the leak did not show up in the downstairs bathroom until later. Even if the leak did not start right away, it would have been noticed more quickly since it would have went through the sheetrock, if used initially, instead of the green board which takes much longer to show up as you know. Also, black mold had already developed on the wood and green board due to the water leak for so long. We contracted MFM to come fix it and they quickly placed blame on a leak in the roof they noticed while on the project. I stated I had a contractor fix that after they completed the job. Obviously this was not true and was confirmed whey they came by to check the leak and roof and said it was dry up there. They said it was definitely the toilet and offered to patch the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom. I said that would be great. After leaving numerous messages and texts on their phones asking when they would come by, I finally received a text back saying it would be a few weeks before they could maybe fix it and, since my father was in the construction business for 40 years and fixed their initial mistake, I should have him patch the hole. If a problem arises after the project is done and you expect the company to come back and fix it then you’re not in luck here. This company won’t fit that into their schedule. They state the site will be cleaned up but after the project was done but, I went into the attic and noticed prior pieces of old sheetrock scattered, the old exhaust fan tubing leading to the outside was thrown to the side rather than removed and insulation was rolled up and moved out of the way rather than replaced back to original state after sheetrock was installed. While going in and out of the front door for weeks during the project, the front door handle was broken by MFM. MFM stated it was just the luck of the draw and not their fault. I thought maybe so I asked them to pay for half of a new one but they said no. After going back and forth, I said if I buy a new one will you at least install it. They said sure but we’ll have to charge you for it. Terrific customer service on their part I thought. So, if what you’ve read are some of the characteristics you’re looking for in a future project then congratulations and best of luck because this one is a one stop shop and has it all, and then some.
