By Alan M.July 7, 2016BUILD A POLE BUILDING$30,000.00Response from Mike Barnhart Construction Inc August 10, 2018Mr McCarthy asked me to give him a price to build a basic pole building with metal roof and metal siding with no overhangs and no gutters. I asked him what he was going to use the building for and he stated that he was just going to keep demolition cars in it. I explained to him that the building would sweat. That’s what uninsulated metal buildings do. He said it didn’t matter he was just keeping demolition cars in it. The damp floor problem that he has is because he wanted the building built in the middle of a wooded area that is basically flat so the surface water has no where to go. Putting gutters on the building won’t help if you can’t get the water to flow away from the building. Mr McCarthy got the exact building that he asked for even after I advised him otherwise. M. Barnhart Construction built me a 40x60 pole building. The workmanship looks okay and the building was finished in a timely manner, but after the building was done, I noticed it was sweating inside. The windows leaked when it rained so the gravel floor gets wet when it rains. I contacted Mike and he came up and looked at the windows. He caulked them and left. They still leak. I contacted him again about the floor being wet and told me that in order to keep it dry, he would have to raise the floor level where the building was built and that would increase the price. I had three estimates for the building, but I took his bid because one of my employees used to work for him and said he would do a good job. Mike's estimate was 3 thousand dollars higher than the other two. If I wanted cheap, I would have taken the low bid. I have since installed rain gutters trying to move the water away from the building. Mike also said he would talk to the company where he got the kit from about the building sweating. To date the building still sweats, the floor is still damp, the windows leak and one of the timbers on one side of the garage door is twisted. I would highly advise against contracting Barnhart construction for any building project.
