Save yourself your sanity, happiness, and money! If you want to work with a builder on a new build choose anyone but this guy. My partner and I were first time home buyers and felt completely taken advantage of. Even if we were not first time home buyers, we feel that he would not give the quality of service and basic communication that any buyer deserves.
Mike stated our home would be finished in mid APRIL and come September, it still wasn't done. Every time we set a new deadline, he would wait until the last minute, sometimes literally the day of, to tell us he could not meet it and wouldn't explain why. We followed up with several people Mike would contract with (appliances, stone, etc) and would find that he had not connected with them yet to obtain materials. Even when he would claim things were ready to go. This proved to us that it was not a "supply chain issue" but a lack of organization, and planning on Mike's part in being able to successfully complete this project.
Both Mike and his realtor, Don Wolkerstorfer sorely lacked communication. They would often take days to respond to questions or not give us any updates at all even when they stated they would be giving weekly updates.
For the quality, Mike had not yet painted the trim and left primer and exposed putty and claimed that if we wanted him to do that it would cost more money. This is a NEW BUILD. He will try to cut corners anywhere he can. We had a dispute about some quality control with things such as the countertops and Mike would not even bother to mitigate the issue and said it was out of his hands when he was the one approving the work.
When we finally had to pull away, Mike delayed signing our cancellation agreement and posted the house on the market and listed it for even higher. At the end of the day, it was a nightmare, the build lacked any integrity, and we are happy we did not go through with it.

Felt Mike Torkelson was very misleading. Promised but couldn't deliver for me and my disabled wife. Raised his price almost $40,000 in 3 weeks time for a home build??? Made me hire my designer to create a plan and never reimbursed me for it. NOW HE IS USING MY PLAN FLOOR PLAN DESIGN TO BUILD A $500,000 HOUSE! In my opinion very sketchy. Be Careful! I don't recommend!

Unfortunately the previous reviews are accurate with my experience with Mike Torkelson as well and his Realtor Don Wolkerstofer. From the beginning things did not go as he stated from breaking ground months after stating to have 8 closing dates and going 14 days without a signed contract on a closing date. I signed an agreement in Dec. of 21ā with the first close date of 6-30-22 and 7 more close dates til finally closing on 12-8-22.. Finding out from his sub contractors that he owes money from previous builds and it causing delays in my build but he tends to tell elaborate stories to pass blame on anything but his own planning. I encountered many issues and errors from Mike directly regardless of clarity being delivered to him on my selections for my home. I praise the other buyers who backed out and moved on to hopefully a better experience with a builder! I could go on with the issues Iām still battling with Mike Torkelson even after close . Please be cautious if you are considering him for your General Contractor- I also heard of him possibly looking into a new Venture of building Outbuildings/Pole Barns. His reputation among Sub Contractors seems to be diminishing
