Keith Micha was recommended to me. He performed crawl space work which was sufficient for all intent. Keith moved my HVAC unit to another location in my yard. Within 10 days of moving the unit, I alerted him to the unit making abnormal noises and the temperature inside the home did not coincide with the settings on the thermostat. Keith identified a hole in the copper line from which the refrigerant leaked, rendering the unit unable to heat or cool the home. I obtained a 2nd opinion from a technician who ultimately repaired the unit after Keith provided a cost estimation of repairs on a unit he just handled. During the second technician exam and pressurizing of the unit prior to installing the refrigerant, a 2nd hole in the copper line was identified and repaired. Several days following, the HVAC unit again malfunctioned. The unit was inspected by the technician who performed the repair work and found the compressor was no longer working properly and recommended the unit be replaced. I obtained an evaluation and recommendation from a third HVAC company who confirmed the compressor was no longer working properly and recommended the HVAC unit be replaced. In the process of replacement, the technician identified several details he described as incorrect practice and/or poor workmanship.
This includes:
1. No connectors to outdoor unit for low or high voltage.
2. Multiple areas of bent/kinked/compressed copper lines.
3. No new filter dryer installed after unit was moved.
4. Unit found to be shutting off due to high head pressure.
5. Improper instillation/protection of wires in unit (wrapped in electrical tape).
It is of debate whether moving the unit caused the erosion of the copper lines allowing the refrigerant to leak rendering the HVAC unit inoperable. Regardless, the existing HVAC unit was in working order prior to the move and non-functional after. After discussion with two separate technicians, the defects in the copper lines should and would have been identified prior to instilling the refrigerant by pressurizing and vacuuming the system. Additionally, the unit ran for an undetermined period of time without refrigerant in it, likely causing the compressor to work harder and ultimately collapse.
The obligation of the agreement to move the HVAC unit and restore it to proper working function was not met through Keith's work. After reaching out to Keith regarding the malpractice, Keith responded with a generic work report. I submitted my concerns to the Better Business Bureau, Keith never responded to their inquiry.
Keith is a nice gentleman and I do not believe this was an intentional event, but he took absolutely no ownership in the quality of his work (or lack thereof), which is concerning as a customer. In addition to this lack of responsibility, I found Keith to be difficult to verbally communicate with and unreliable, often a no call no show to my home on scheduled dates. I would not recommend him to anyone seeking HVAC needs.
