By Kathy M.July 21, 2021Verified HireBEWARE. Doors and Windows projectResponse from Minions Construction July 21, 2021Kathy firing us comes as news as I only found out about this through this review. Here is my response. 1. The requirement of having to do a reinforcement of footing is a recent change in building codes I was not aware of and I found out about it when the engineering showed it in the plans. I have submitted the change order for " Excavate for new footings, drill and dowl per Details on S-1 sheet, pour back footing and new pad stoop Montilithic" for the amount of $5,754 and NOT $6,500, it was based on the pricing I got from my concrete subcontractor. Kathy got offended and she said she will just have someone else do the concrete work herself. She did so. That concrete contractor did that for free because Kathy is a manager for Blue Heron Construction benefiting from using their subcontractors and not because the work was so simple. 2. All materials were supplied by the approved plans and installed accordingly. I have all the photos showing, just that and I cannot upload it here but anyone asks I can forward those pictures if needed. The beam, the posts are the proper size matching the size of the sliding door frame she ordered and provided to me. My pictures are also showing the door already in place properly leveled and plumed. The issue is the her house exterior walls are framed 2x4 and the door she ordered is calling for 2x6 framing (which we did). So even if I framed the wall to 2x4, her door frame would have been sticking out with the 6" frame. Either way this issue was addressed between my crew and her door installers no problem. 3. My contract and scope addressed the framing out to accommodate the installation of the customer provided door. It does not call out for and threshold work in preparation for the door. That is the door company's job. I was very specific about the manufacturer to install the door and she understood it at the time. When I was there the installers already had the frame in without any issues so I am wondering what the complaint is about. I have all paperwork and photos to support my response. Kathy got a well below market price for the job, she did not get charged anything extra even though lumber increased by over 100% in price and I absorbed the additional cost, yet she is unhappy about the prices. Perhaps next time she can just get this kind of work done for free using her employer's subcontractors as she did with the concrete guy. Thank you.

My overall experience with Minion Construction has been extremely unpleasant. The owner, Szorenyi, became increasingly condescending, rude and obnoxious as the project neared its end. The project start date was delayed several days because Szorenyi requested a delay in that he wanted to complete another project before beginning mine. The project started with Minion workers doing demolition in the downstairs and upstairs guest bathrooms. At the end of the second day, I found that the workers who had done the demo upstairs had failed to remove the entire faucet and that water was leaking from the fixture and down into my laundry room. A person returned to my home and repaired the leak and set up fans to blow upstairs and downstairs to dry things out. After that incident, Szorenyi's crew did not come back to my home for nearly a week and I received no communication about when they would return. After contacting Szorenyi and requesting the status, he finally came to my home under the guise of determining who he needed to send out to resume the work. I later realized that was a delay tactic. During his visit, I found that the men who were working my project had left his employment due to a dispute with him. For about 2 weeks after that incident, the only person who worked on my project was a subcontractor who completed building the shower ALONE and worked on the flooring. After the flooring was completed, Minion Construction sent out a person to paint and to refinish the cabinets. The rooms that I paid to be painted did not have the look of a professional job. There was overlapping of paint and stain along the walls, the doors were not painted at all, and places where the walls need matching texture were ignored. Additionally, Minion Construction installed a shower door in the upstairs guest bath that was nothing like the one described in the bid. And the hardware on the poorly installed shower door downstairs did not have the correct hardware (brushed nickel vs matte black). When I spoke to Szorenyi about the poor quality of the work and the installation errors, he made excuses, criticized his workers but took no responsibility for anything. After that, communication between the two of us began to deteriorate because Szorenyi became increasingly hostile towards me to the point I refused to speak to him on the phone and asked that he communicate with me only in writing due to his lack of consistency in the things he would say. He became increasingly rude and belligerent during any conversation that I had with him. He then began to demand payment of the entire contracted amount plus $1475 of change orders that were not executed in accordance with our contract. Szorenyi felt that he could declare the job completed and demand final payment before actually completing all work that was included in the punch list that I had provided to him. It was not until BuildZoom intervened that he finally agreed to complete the job. I gave him one day to get everything done and there are still small details that show a complete lack of attention to detail on the part of him and his workers. The work was "completed" on May 14th. As a review...the project was supposed to start on March 1st but was delayed by the contractor until March 4th. The contractor began demanding payment at the end of April even though the job was not completed. Minion sent a final bill with the unauthorized change orders on Saturday, May 15. I delivered a cashier's check to them on Monday May 17th and deducted the $975 for unauthorized and excessive change orders. Zsolt Szorenyi emailed a past due invoice to me (which is incorrectly dated 1.1.2021) along with the 15-day notice to lien my home on the same day that I made the payment. I notified Szorenyi that the charges were excessive AND unauthorized and yet he persists. I am probably going to have to seek legal counsel in order to get this problem resolved. This continues to be a nightmare.
Response from Minions Construction June 2, 2021It is unfortunate that Ms Denegin is trying to strongarm my company for a discount under threats of filing complaints with local government agencies and writing bad reviews. See below: "Unless you cease and desist with this matter and withdraw this demand for additional payment of excessive and unauthorized change orders, I will move forward with doing the following: 1. File a complaint against your company with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office. 2. Contact the Nevada State Contractor’s Board and open up a complaint against you. 3. File a claim against your bond for misperformance. I ask that you send a corrected invoice showing that my balance is paid in full within 48 hours. Thank you, Andrea Denegin" Ms Denegin received exactly what she wanted on her remodel request, requested additional work to be done (which I have in writing), received all corrective warranty repairs which she signed off on, then later tried to whip up complaints to pressure me to waive charges to change orders she requested and work was performed. Under NRS 108.222 (b) the contractor is entitled for compensation for work performed and materials delivered. I am not asking for anything more than what is due for work completed. Ms Denegin is only complaining to get free work and unfortunately this is not a charity operation where I get to hand out free stuff without losing money. I know I am within my rights and I have photos and other documentation to show that the extra work was requested and performed, no matter where she will file a complaint. -

I contracted Minion Construction to build a block wall on the side yard at our property line. I was very satisfied with the outcome for this project. Zolt is very professional and the quote was reasonable. They started a day ahead of schedule and finished early. I would not hesitate to work with them again.

just needed to let you know so others can beware about using Minions Construction. They have totally messed me over and left me in a huge mess. They were not communicative throughout this entire past six months, they tried to send me a “change order”of $6,500 for work they claimed they did not know they would need to do… it was for reinforcing concrete footings which were clearly on the drawings and is absolutely something any contractor would know needed to be done. I called another concrete guy and he came out and did it for me for free because he said it was something that took 20 minutes to do and should have been part of Minions scope and they of course would know that if they were reputable contractors. Minions told me that they screwed themselves because they did not buy out the job months ago when I paid the deposit and now lumber prices have gone up so much… I know that is why they were trying to tell me it would be an additional $6,500 for something that should have been part of their scope from the beginning.
They came yesterday and cut the hole for the new door. They used the wrong size glue Lam and the framing is out of level and out of plumb. The glue Lam and framing stick out proud of the wall inside and out. There is no way to patch the interior Sheetrock or the exterior stucco now. I now have to rip out the wall inside and out and do a completely new wall. They also framed the opening wrong and the door had to be installed farther out than the door that was there leaving me now with a huge strip that I have to try and find the same wood flooring to patch. They Also did not put the exterior threshold back and refused to do so. There is nothing to support the new door.
This has been the single biggest nightmare I’ve had to live through and I am now left with an even bigger mess and way more expense to even attempt to finish this job and fix everything they left me with.
When the door installers called them out on the framing and threshold, they literally got in their truck and just left. I am now left holding the bag.
I would 100% not support them being on your site and anyone else having to through what I have been going through with them.
I have had to fire them and will have to try to find people to come dig me out of this mess at even greater expense, time and mess.
