DO NOT HIRE THOMAS MITCHELL for any type of work. He is completely unreliable and very dishonest!
We hired Tom Mitchell to hang, tape, and texture drywall in our basement. He was very quick to arrive to give us a quote for the job. He was also quick to provide an invoice and ask for a deposit that he claimed was for supplies for the project. We agreed on a start date and he was paid the deposit as requested the day after the invoice was received by us. He texted us the day before the job was to start and claimed that the drywall supply company was delayed in delivering the supplies and this would cause him to have to start a day later. We agreed to allow this and were promised delivery of the supplies with him starting work by noon on that day. The supplies were never delivered and he never showed up to start the work. We were then unable to reach him by phone or text until late in the evening on the night that he was supposed to start by noon. When questioned he claimed that delivery was unable to happen because we were not home and that he was out of service on another job until then and that is why he hadn't answered our calls or texts. We were home all day and unable to reach him, so he was fired that evening and a full refund of the deposit was requested. He then tried to get us to allow him to finish the drywall job by discounting it $500. We refused and demanded a refund. He set several dates to provide the refund and has yet to pay us back a cent, and this is now 6 months after he was to start the job. He was unable to provide us with the name of the company that was supposed to have delivered the supplies that never arrived.
We took him to small claims court, he never showed, and we have been awarded a full refund of the deposit, plus expenses for filing and a 12% interest rate. We are now putting a lien against his property in order to receive the refund that we should have been promptly given when he was fired from the job that he never started or provided any supplies for. He is the most dishonest person I have ever had the displeasure of knowing.
Please do not allow yourself or anyone you know to have any professional dealings with him! He will try to steal from you or leave a job unstarted or unfinished. We will ultimately get our refund by having the legal system tell him how to act as a business man and a human being. Save yourself and those you know from having to know him.
