Mike did not finish the work paid to do. Left things incomplete, paid to install a stove, stove was never at the home or installed, counter-top edging not put on, cabinet shelves not put in, left paint on hardwood floors and on windows. Did not finish painting in all areas, did not patch all of the holes before painting, did not prime/paint enough to stop original color of paint from bleeding through.

Michael Smith, owner of MJS Contracting Service of Broomall, PA, is a serial swindler. I have found on the Thumbtack, Builder and Better Business Bureau websites accounts of people who have paid him, as I did, to perform a job, only to have him disappear into thin air with the money. In my case it was $350, but one of the victims lost $2,100.
Even when he does not take the client’s money and run, he is a disaster. Saying that that the parts he ordered through the distributor failed to come in on schedule, he will tell you he’ll arrive on Monday at 11:00…then on Tuesday at 11:00… then on Wednesday at 11:00…
I hired Smith to fix the electrical baseboard heater, which had stopped getting electric power. After several changes in the hour of the appointment, he finally came and said the breaker was damaged, presumably because of a freak power surge. Coming back with a new breaker took several days of continually changed appointments, as per above. When finally he came and installed it, he said the heater still did not work, and thus the electrical surge had damaged the heater as well. I had to give him $350 to get a new one and replace the damaged one. Once more we began a game of shifting the appointment from day to day, until the day came when I said I wanted either a working heater or a refund of my $350 by that evening. He provided neither and he vanished into thin air, as has been the experience of other victims.
And it even gets worse. The next person I hired to fix the problem told me that the heater was fine and he was sure the breaker had been fine. The problem was a burnt area in the long wire that runs out of the heater in the kitchen down into the basement, and then the length of the basement to where the breakers are. He fixed the wire and the original heater is now working fine. So I paid $110 for a new breaker that was not necessary (but then did he even put in a new breaker?) and I paid him $350 for a new heater, which he never delivered, that was also totally unnecessary.
