I would not recommend MLBaker construction for any job large or small. Marty presents himself as courteous and eager to provide the construction or remodeling services that you request, with half payment requested up front and a promise to start work within 10 days. Then you never see him or hear from him until you constantly call him requesting that he begin work. Three months later after contracting him for a first floor bathroom installation, I had a bathroom framework with drywall attached, electrical work that was not to code and a mess. I had to hire an electrician, a plumber and another contractor (who had to purchase more materials that I had already paid for ) to complete the job perfectly in 10 days. Marty makes promises the he does not keep. No integrity! Save money and frustration and hire someone other. Do your research and do not just trust a friend of a friend. Lesson learned, time wasted, bridges burned!

By Sheri H.September 14, 2019Bathroom remodels, Windows, general construction projects$35,000
We do NOT recommend Marty Baker. He has a good sales pitch and presents himself as a general contractor. Claims to have plumbing, electrical crews but that is not true. Avoids permits and inspections. We originally hired him to to do many projects in our home. Projects that were to be done by last Thanksgiving have never been completed satisfactory. I wish I could share pictures of his poor quality work. He left trash laying around our property for weeks, damaged our floors and steps.
-Attic windows installed but did not caulk or trim them out leaving gaps to the outside.
-installed Bilco Door fit did not finish trim
-Removed/replaced windows but left bare wood exposed to weather for entire winter.
-faulty plumbing done by him. We continually asked for certified plumber.
Failure on our part to trust him. We paid too much money up front so felt like we had to try to get him to finish the projects. Should have just fired him!

By Constance W.July 4, 2019Roof and Gutters
We hired Marty to put a new roof on our rental property in February and during that process he told us we needed new gutters. We agreed and he charged us $1000 for the gutters and said they would be back to install them. We have called multiple times and been given the run around saying that he would get to the gutters for months. It has escalated to him not answering our calls. It is now July and the gutters are still laying in the yard, not installed. Not to mention his crew damaged a windshield of our renter, which he promised to take off of the gutter price. We paid to have the windshield repaired and have not received any money back! I have all of this on a receipt written by Marty himself. I would not recommend Marty for ANY job!

By Eric R.May 2, 2018Put in a new roof$9,000
I recently hired M.L. Baker construction to put a new roof on my house. I liked everything about the experience: On schedule, on budget, good workmanship, good communication, organized. I have never in my entire life seen a more harder working crew. These guys were not only courteous and accommodating, they labored their tails off with few breaks. No one I've ever contracted comes close to their work ethics while providing quality results like they did. I personally highly recommend them. In fact I intend to hire them in few weeks for some other projects I need done. I'm very impressed; they are truly skilled laborers. Eric Raymond

I was very pleased with the roofing job that Mr. Baker and his employees did on replacing my roof. He was very professional and he was prepared to give me the detailed information on the job. His employees were very hard workers and very respectful. I was definitely satisfied with the job he did

Our basement was damaged by moisture. Marty diagnosed the moisture problem was more serious than we thought (was filling a dehumidifier every two days) and he installed a French drain. Then he did all the demolition and rebuilt our room. It was amazing. The attention to detail and the quality of the materials was top notch. He even fixed the stairs to the basement, adding a landing/L-bend that really improved the look of the room. He added a wall to separate the living space from a mud room, put in a bay window and upgraded the bathroom. It was great working with him and the project came in under budget and on time.

Marty started are addition/roof/seamless gutters/central air in September and almost finished the project at the end of January. Marty and his workers would show up one to two days then not show up till a week later. If his workers would show up without him they would hardly work. Sometimes they would hide so I would not see them not working. I talked to Marty about it and he said he knows they do this. I would have to clean up nails on the days they worked so no one would step on them and to save are tires. They are very messy workers. The roof and addition looks good but it was painful to get to that point. Marty never call inspector for final inspection so I did. It failed inspection, he used outlet that were not code. I called Marty said he would be over to fix, like always Marty never showed up he is all talk and no action. I had to spend 18.00 and replace plugs and plates myself to get final inspection so we could refinance. Marty has my key I asked for it back in January even asked him to mail it. I had to pay 29.99 +10.00 for new lock and keys. He was to replace 2 windows and to finished everything so all we had to do is paint and trim. He put 1 window in and never put in the inside frame. The wood cost me 15.00 to finish. He removed one window and left a huge hole in wall, Marty said he would fix but true to Marty he was all talk and no action. He also left a hole where the dryer vent was(he had to move it). This cost me 25.00 to fix. If you have a contract with him you have to make sure it says FIX holes you left in my wall. I thought that saying everything finished so all we have to do is pain and trim was enough. Not with Marty if it is not in the contract he won't do it. Be very careful because he will go over the contract with you and make you believe he has it right, don't trust that, he will say it is not in the contract. Even if he tells you how he is going to finish something he won't. He told me he was going to replace are basement window with a peg board he never did I had to go buy pegboard to finish it myself that cost me another 8.00. I was getting a new central air unit and he asked for 1150.00 but only gave the guy 900.00 for the unit, when the bill came we were like WHAT. The air guy said Marty only gave him 900.00 not 1150.00. Marty told me finder fee. So we gave the guy 50.00 more out of are pocket to help offset the loss he had to take. Marty left a mess everywhere a pallet of bad cement, old siding, are place was a mess. We paid someone 150.00 to come over and cleanup and get rid of all the garbage. He ruined a tarp we has for the swimming pool that we have to replace another 25.00. At the end he tried to get us to pay 300.00 more are seamless gutters. He said that the contract it was only for the addition. He knew it was for the whole house and would say the gutter people will be here to do the gutters at least 1 time a month from sept to jan. The gutters were in the price he was trying to get more money off us in the end which I have found out is very like Marty. Everyone who came in to do work I would fined out Marty did them wrong and he would rip them off. So in the end Marty cost us over 300.00 out of pocket . Never put in the last window, Never cleaned up, We had a mess with the extra dirt that he never fixed I worked on the for two day to fix it. He took out some of are fence that we have to put back in,and left us with one corner of the new addition that frost when it is cold out that we will have to have someone come over to fix. More Money. So if you hire Marty expect a 1/2 done job, a big mess, very slow work, never take him at his word. ALL of this and I paid him 19,000.00

Marty did a fantastic job for us. He just put a new roof on our house, and we could not be happier. His work crew was incredible. Meticulous workmanship, and cleaned up after the Project like I've never seen before. Marty is a really good guy to work with. I would highly recommend him, and was so impressed, that he will be putting a new deck on our house in the next couple of weeks.
