BUYER BEWARE! Don't get ripped off by MN Plumbing & Appliance, Inc. like I did! They were assigned to me as a 3rd party installer from a purchase of a washer and dryer from a big-box store. When the crew got to my house I was informed my gas line and venting were out of date and needed to be brought up to code before they could do the install. Fair enough, I get it. $476 later I was up to code. But with their hasty install work, some of the strapping to secure the vent had pulled out of the wall during the first load in my new dryer, and they needed to come back for a second time to fix their own work.
And what does $476 get you that MN Plumbing calls "set pricing for bringing items to current code" when I asked them to justify why they charged what they did:
- Gas Work , Additional Parts And Labor - $75.00.
- Strapping - $50.00; There was 1 piece of strapping used -24" of galvanized mending strap and 2 sheetrock anchors.
- Complex Drip T , Dog Leg - $125; This included my preexisting 4' black pipe coming from the shutoff valve. Added was a 1/2" T, a 2" pre-threaded black steel nipple, and a cap.
- Vent Work , Insulation - $100; My entire preexisting ridged vent pipe was used. So for that, it was a 4' section of vent pipe insulation, and some aluminum foil tape.
- Gas Valve - $66.00; The nicest brass 1/2" UL listed ball valve for gas I can find at a local hardware store retails for $10.93.
- Air Hammer Set - $60.00; not sure what they do, but I needed them. Something to do with the water shutting off quickly by the machine.
I had asked somebody in an email to call me and discuss these prices as a conversation, and I received a single sentence back "In regards to the pricing that is our set pricing for bringing items to current code." You had me between a rock and a hard place, and you ripped me off. If these are your set prices to do standard work, you should be ashamed of your markup and profit margin. BUYER BEWARE! Get a detailed quote before you consent to the work being done and question it before you sign your paper work.
