I purchased a house where Brett was hired by the house seller to inspect and repair electrical service line and house feeder wires on exterior of house. Since purchasing the house I had another electrician do some other work for me and as we were walking around outside he noticed the feeder wires on the house exterior and how they were just bound with electrical wire. He told me that this was not a UL approved repair by any means.
It turns out Brett was not a master electrician so he was not qualified to do the updates/repairs that needed to be done because the city has to get involved by issuing a permit and shutting off the main power, and they only issue permits to master electricians. So instead of telling the seller he was not qualified to do the work he just put a bandaid on the problem. I have copies of text messages he exchanged with the seller stating the city would have to get involved etc.
I had asked my realtor who would be making sure that all repairs were done correctly and she assured me that “they had to be done correctly”. Being the terrible realtor she was she pretty much dismissed my concerns and through my ignorance I didn’t think to double-check work that was supposedly done, nor do I know if I would have recognized the work Brett did as unacceptable.
So on 5-7-2018 I contacted Brett to see if we could get this resolved by having him repair the wiring correctly. I informed Brett that I would file a complaint against him if we didn’t get this resolved. We went back and forth as to what should be done but he refused to do anything more than place PVC over the cable. I agreed that would be ok. He said he had to order it and would contact me as soon as it came in.
6-11-2018 and I never heard back from Brett so I called him again. He then started asking me questions as if we never had the first conversation. So my thoughts are he pretty much just blew me off. He asked if I was going to have the service updated eventually because if I was then the PVC would just be removed and thrown out anyway. I said that I already explained that in our first conversation and that he should have updated the service when he was initially hired by the seller and he just chuckled as if I’m stupid. So I asked again if he planned on fixing this wiring for me and he didn’t give me a direct answer to I told him to never mind and I would take this issue to the next step.
