It is extremely rare that I leave a review for any business, but this one felt warranted. We hired and paid J.R. Moorehead to install windows, and renovated my bathroom about 7 years ago. He was a family friend and claimed he could do the work I needed. It was a difficult time as my wife was going through chemotherapy and J.R. would frequently use this fact over the next 7 years to establish trust and friendship with me. Every time I spoke with him, whether it was professional or personal, he would say “I was there when your wife was going through cancer and I feel like a part of your family now so I will always look out for you guys.” This could not be further from the truth, as when I first came to him with the major leaking problems in my windows and the mushroom growing out of my ceiling, he defensively told me it was not his fault and he knows he did the work well. I offered to pay for whatever was needed to fix these problems and he then sent his company (which he started a few years after doing my job) to help figure out what was wrong. They constantly were telling me that they have 3 other big projects going on so it may take some time (also showing me where I was on the priority list). After weeks of waiting, this company said they would not help me with any of the problems, only do the drywall when everything is finished. At this point, I had no idea how many things J.R. Moorehead had done wrong in the work I hired him for 7 years prior, so I just chose to drop it and realized he was not as interested in “looking out for my family” as I thought. After months of mold removal, plumbers, and multiple contractors, it turns out that he did numerous negligent things to my house that caused over $30,000 in damage and repairs. Every single one on these contractors provided statements that showed the poor workmanship that led to all of these problems over the years including
-Not installing a shower pan (not up to code)
-Drilling into the base of widows to secure
-Covering the weep holes where water is supposed to come out
-Installing the windows flush with inside of the house instead of the outside
These mistakes were so obvious to the professional contractors, that they were shocked and suggested I file a RICO and hold him accountable. This has caused me months of a chaotic house that is a construction zone and a great deal of money. When I realized how poor his work was, I contacted his company who took no responsibility and hid behind lawyers and the fact that he was not licensed at the time of doing the work (a fact that I, as a naive new home owner, was not aware of). J.R. himself never once talked to me after my initial call, and hid behind his company. I cannot help but feel taken advantage of by J.R. and his company, as he could have done the right thing at multiple steps, but instead is trying to save face and money by not taking ownership of his poor workmanship. His company who came out even used non-waterproof caulking as a temporary fix to the leaks which obviously lasted less than a day and did nothing to actually help. For these reasons, it is clear to me this company is not only poor, but focused on financial gain versus customer service. J.R. is a shady salesman who will say what he can to earn your trust, but try to escape responsibility due to ego and greed. He did this to me, a supposed friend who he claimed he would be there for, and yet has shown a lack of integrity and honor at every turn. If you hire this company, I truly hope they do a good job, because if they do not they will do everything they can to avoid responsibility. Hire at your own risk...and J.R. shame on you.
